Frank Yates tested his newfound abilities a few more times, concentrating hard. He discovered that his range for Spirit Control was currently limited to objects within a three-meter radius. Still, this was enough to fill him with a sense of wild, childish delight. He had only ever seen such telekinetic feats in movies or read about them in fantasy novels. He had assumed they were the fabrications of overactive imaginations, impossible in reality. Yet, here he was, moving objects with his mind. The line between fiction and his reality had fundamentally blurred. He reached into his pocket to check the time on his phone, only to find the screen black. It had run out of battery and shut down automatically. As the adrenaline of the breakthrough faded, a ravenous hunger clawed at his stomach.
