CHAPTER 6THE GREEN DEATH The thing was thrice the size of a man, with hulking shoulders and long ape-like arms; vaguely anthropoid, it had, however, the hindquarters of a reptile, and the spiny tail. Reptilian, too, were the glistening green scales of its hide, the fanged jaws, the gaping nostrils. But the most horrible thing about it was its head, which resembled the head of a man, with its blunt snout and square mouth. Man-like, too, was the bristling mane of green spines it wore as men wear their hair. Strong jaws crunched. Bone snapped, blood spurted. And Kammud went down to the Kingdom of Shadows headless.
