Chapter 3: The Unspoken Pain

245 Words
The following days were a blur of emptiness. Sophie moved through life like a ghost, her emotions a tidal wave threatening to drown her. She couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t eat. Every time she closed her eyes, the image of Ethan’s face—guilty, desperate, and ashamed—haunted her. She couldn’t stop replaying their last conversation. His words echoed in her mind: “I never meant for it to happen…” But the damage was already done. She had asked him how long the affair had been going on, but part of her didn’t want to know. The idea of him being with someone else, holding another woman, kissing her, laughing with her—it all twisted inside her stomach like poison. How had he managed to keep such a huge secret from her? How had he looked her in the eye every day, kissed her goodnight, and made love to her—while carrying on this other life? The realization sank deeper with each passing hour: He didn’t love her enough to be honest. And now, she was left to pick up the pieces. As the days went on, Sophie struggled with the question of whether or not to confront Ethan again. The urge to demand answers was powerful, but something inside her told her that the conversation would only make it worse. She couldn’t trust him anymore. The foundation of their relationship had cracked, and no number of words could fill that void.
