“I don’t even know your name?” He’s so close that if either of us move barely an inch our lips would touch.
“Caleb,” He whispers just as he touches his lips to mine. At first it was sweet, gentle even, but a short moment after starting the kiss, it was as though he couldn’t contain himself and grew more insistent. The hand on my cheek had gone around to the back of my head, guiding it for better access as his tongue swept across the seam my lips, asking for entry that I instantly surrendered. His other hand had gone around to the small of my back to draw me closer until I was flush against his body. I hadn’t even realised we had been moving until something hit the backs of my legs.
Being so caught up in the kiss I didn’t properly register how far it had gone until, my back was on the bed and Caleb’s hands were starting their way up under my top.
I gasped and pushed at his shoulders. He broke away a bit confused. “What’s wrong, love?”
“Nothing, it’s just, it’s a bit fast. We’ve only just met.”
“Maybe it is. Though we may have just met it feels beyond right. Like we’ve known each other as long as there’s been life.” He rested his forehead against mine staring into my eyes as I tried to understand what he had just said. I was speechless. I felt the same way towards him. I felt so safe, like I’d known him for years instead of possibly hours. My hands were still on his shoulders, I ran one of them up toward his cheek. We stayed like that for what felt like hours but was most likely only a few seconds or minutes. I was like we were magnets being pulled together by some unknown force.
“Are you two going to f**k or just stare at each other?” An unknown voice came out of nowhere.
“What do you want, Samuel?” Caleb growled without breaking away from me. If anything, it seemed as though he was trying to hide me from the newcomer's line of sight.
“Well, I was just coming to say that your essentially screwed in the worst way possible. They know about her.” Caleb closed his eyes and broke away from me when Samuel, I suppose, said ‘They know about me’. Realising that made me wonder who the heck ‘They’ were.
Suddenly, there was a crash pulling me from my thoughts. “How did they find out? You didn’t even know about her until about an hour ago.” Caleb was instantly glaring at Samuel. I rushed to get in-between the two of them, immediately regretting it as I felt pain in my leg. I looked down to see a bruise gone black already starting to fade on my shin. Like I’d hit it hard on the way over. Evidently, the healing part of the vampire myths had been true.
“Don’t even think it, there must be a reason that they know. Whoever they are.”
“They are my parents, and vampire royalty, so to speak.” Again, stunned speechless. Royalty?! I was too stunned to even notice Caleb had tugged me toward him and engulfed me in a tight hug burying his face in my neck. I didn’t notice until his lips brushed the skin where he had bitten me to turn me. I pulled back slightly, or tried to, his grip was extremely tight. That when I realised, he had calmed down a fair bit. He then raised his head to look over my shoulder at Samuel. “How long do you reckon we have until they get here?”
“I don’t know it could be ten seconds, it could be ten hours.” He says this as a slightly older couple walk through the door.
“Or we could arrive in the middle of your being informed that we knew of your beloved.” The man says continuing Samuel’s estimates. Though I’m kind of stuck on the word beloved.
“Beloved, w-w-what do you mean beloved?” I ask before properly thinking it through.
“Thanks Dad. I hadn’t even gotten to explain that to her yet.” Caleb complained.
“Your welcome and if you didn’t mess around changing her before talking to her you might have been able to explain everything before we found out about her.” His father scolded. He turned his attention to me. “Now what have you been told?”
“Only that I am now a vampire and that you are essentially royalty in the vampire world. Mind you, I did try to run away when I woke up. So, that might have stopped Caleb from telling me anything else.” I inform him. I don’t know why but I seemed to want to stand up for Caleb. Though my trying to defend him seemed to make his father scowl deepen.
“Why did you try to run?”
“I woke up in a room I didn’t recognise after having a couple drinks at club with my friends and no memory of how I got there. Which I don’t, generally, do. I thought I had been kidnapped, which I suppose in a way I have been, as a certain someone didn’t explain anything before biting me aside from potentially giving me a chance at something more.” Which every other word he seemed to glare more and more profusely at his son.
“Kidnapped? Caleb, you turned and kidnapped this young lady. I thought I raised you better than that, young man!” The lady sounded exasperated as she said this, like she couldn’t believe what I had just said.
“Mom,” Caleb whined “It’s not like I meant to. I hadn’t actually fed properly for a while so I went to the club. When she walked in, I knew she was mine and I couldn’t help it I had to meet her. We were making out behind the club when the hunger properly came over me and I bit her. I didn’t mean to take as much as I did, it was too much for her to be able to hand the blood loss and I just couldn’t let her die for my stupid mistake when I had just found her. So, I gave her some of my blood to help her recover from the blood loss and instead of it help with the blood loss it changed her completely into a vampire.” He had such a look of shame on his face as he recounted what had happened merely a few hours ago, but it felt like it could have been a lifetime ago. I could help it, I pulled him into a reassuring hug to let him know I understood and that I didn’t blame him.
“I understand why you did it, but others in the vampiric community won’t see it the same way. There are rules in place for a reason, a human is not meant to be changed without informing either myself or the elders and you are supposed to wait for them to agree to the change being done. Not that this hasn’t been done before. Though, when changed to changeling has been put under observation for a week minimum to assure that they won’t let it out that vampires truly exist.” Caleb’s father explains. He looks almost sympathetic.
