After getting Jade into the house and bundled up so she wouldn"t lose any more warmth, Steve built a fire and heated some soup.
"You"ve got to be careful," he said, putting the bowl on the small table in the kitchen where she sat. "You used so much energy healing him that, even after the extra I gave you, you didn"t have enough left to maintain your own body temperature. You have to be careful not to give up more than you can safely spare." He sat across from her and made sure she ate every bite. She"d burned a lot of calories rebuilding what she"d used.
"I"ve never done anything that big before." She spoke between spoonfuls, "I wasn"t thinking about energy or not using too much. All I thought about was the next step and how to fix it. It was wonderful."
