TALIA
The beeping sound of the monitors were the only think I heard each time I woke up. My eyes never stayed open for up to three minutes before everything becomes blackout again.
The man who saved me was always sitted each time I opened my eyes. He had finally changed his blood-stained shirt to a clean one.
He raised up his head, moving his hair away from his face. He had bags under his eyes and a small untreated cut on his forehead.
A nurse entered with a tray containing a glass, piles and new drips. She smiled softly, her name tag reading “Laura.”
“Time for your next dose ms Voss.” she smiled, adjusting the IV line.
How did she know my name? Or did the strange man go through my things to find out my name?
“This would ease the pain.” she said.
I could only nod slowly, My entire body weak and in pain.
He stared at her, his eyes never leaving the injection as she gave me the dose.
“That’s the new medication right? The one the doctor switched to?” he asked.
“Yes sir,” she smiled. “ stronger analgesic, it'll help her sleep better.”
She said, placing the drugs on the table and packing up the tray to leave.
My eyes became heavy immediately, too fast.
The room became shaky, and everywhere was Tilting.
My chest tightened with sudden pain, my heart was racing to fast.
He was already holding me, trying to find out what was wrong.
“T, talk to me, what's happening?” he panicked.
I couldn't speak, it felt like my tongue was tied. My whole body shook, I started convulsing immediately.
He went after the nurse, but she had already escaped through another door. He came back inside, pressing the emergency button.
The whole room turned red as the alarms screamed.
The nurses and doctors rushed in. He pressed his phone, giving orders to the other person. My vision was blurring completely.
“She’s stabilizing.” the doctor breathed. “Whatever it was they gave her, we caught it quickly,” he said.
The man gripped the doctor by his collar.
“This is a f*****g VIP in the most expensive hospital here in Newyork, and you tell me someone can just waltz in here to poison another person without any of you knowing.” he yelled.
Slowly, my vision was returning, and I saw him pinning the doctor against the wall.
The moment he noticed my eyes were opening, he left the doctor and came to my side.
“How do you feel?” he whispered.
I could only stare at him, before darkness took over again.
When my eyes fluttered open again, he was still by my side.
“Its over.” he whispered, pressing my hands softly.
He got a call that changed his facial expression.
He turned on the tv. The screen flickered to a reported standing outside a familiar mansion.
“Shocking news, Tech mogul Ian Kane and his wife Isla Kane who shocked the whole world with her return after being presumed dead at sea. Close sources confirm exclusively that Isla is pregnant. This pair reportedly settled a few months ago, and decided to keep it to themselves until they felt ready to share with the world.“
The broadcast cut with a fottage of Ian and Isla leaving the clinic together, his hands on the small of her back.
“Ian Kane gave us a little speech earlier. He thanked the reporters for respecting their privacy during that delicate period, and himself and Isla never stopped loving each other.
The heart monitor started beating fastly again.
My whole life was a lie. How long had they reconciled that she was pregnant?
I turned away, my face now facing the windows.
“You deserved better.” He spoke.
I scoffed.
You know nothing.
I turned back again, feeling restless.
Then I saw it again, that shadow.
It stayed a bit longer this time, then it disappeared.
