Preparations

David heard his garage door close with a bang, it was at that moment he let out a sigh of relief. He had made it home in one piece, nothing was missing except for those already gone so he felt quite good about himself, until he remembered what he had been forced to go through, what he had been forced to do. His mood soured as he disconnected the shopping cart from the bicycle. Thinking about Ahmed left a bad taste in his mouth and ruined his mood, guilt was a tricky thing. Once you felt it, it was hard not thinking that everything wrong with the world was your fault. “Well Ahmed always said that the universe would wipe the world clean of sinners. I guess this is Pangea's own book of revelations or end of days.” David muttered to himself. He moved the cage containing the tortoises, and surprisingly in the one hour it took him to return home, these three reptiles had chewed a hole big enough for either one of them to walk through their cage. But they just busied their self with eating the rest of the metal. David did not feel the urge to own any pets, in fact at this point in time that would be very counter productive and stupid. Only idiots with a death wish would think it wise to own pets when the pets were rising up and eating their owners. But David needed this tortoises for an experiment, essentially they had now taken the roles of lab rats, and what was being tested was David's telepathic abilities. David had felt his ability at work before, though the first time he was mostly unconscious and the whole thing was disorienting, but the Second time when one of those cats was trying to take a bite out of his neck, he was able to get the cat to lean slightly enough that all he got in exchange was an ear almost sliced to ribbons. David had no idea how to use his abilities, he knew it would be quite dangerous using a mental ability with a level one mental stat, but it would be incredibly stupid to not take advantage of every weapon in his arsenal. Besides he was sure he could do it without pushing it too far. But before that he had to prepare himself for his journey off the island. He had at most three days before his body absorbs past the capacity it was capable of and experiences an energy surge. At that point all of the energy in his body would be used to improve his abilities based on his recent activities. David had a lot of things planned for the future, so it was better to be prepared to leave at a moments notice, especially when this island only had a week before it goes down under. The thing is David had not yet seen any sign that the island was sinking, but just before communication was cut off from the outside world they had been able to find out that a few islands off the south eastern coast were currently sinking as the sea level seemed to be increasing. Victoria island was one of those islands mentioned and there have been reports from people who leave closer to the sea saying their houses had been submerged in just a night. David lived right in the middle of the island, it was why the commercial district was so close by. David moved the tortoises into a thicker tool box and left it slightly open so that they could have air. Then he made his way up to his room to gather his clothes and guns. The three and half meter hole he had somehow made during the last energy surge had a long wooden plank over it. It was the only way David could get across since his body was not strong enough to make that kind of jump. David made his way to his room as he got his clothes ready, as this was not a routine vacation David need to think of the clothes that would offer him more protection but it should be all within a proper fashion sense. David would rather die than look stupid or un stylish. Unfortunately for him David from earth was the fashion guru while David of Pangea was the nerd with the most terrible fashion sense ever(what the hell would he be doing in a pink rain coat.) Looking at his closet David shivered in horror, he could not begin to imagine how he had survived his whole life on Pangea with such a horrible fashion sense. A lot of the clothes were practical, especially if the current situation should be considered. But their colors were horrible, or their sizes were too big. It was just a big no. David made his way to his brother’s room. Mark’s room was the epitome of male masculinity, there were posters of naked girls on the wall, computers, gaming consoles, a virtual reality game pod, a mini gym, a fridge and an enormous bed. And his closet, good God in heavens, it was amazing. David wished wherever his brother is right now God should let him die quickly and without pain for having such an awesome collection of clothes. David was giddy with excitement, but before the joy could go completely off the rails the rationality of David of Pangea reminded him that he couldn’t take much and the clothes had to offer proper protection, thankfully they were both almost the same size with David being a little taller and Mark more muscular and filled out. Their shoe sizes however were the same. David pouted for a bit, arguing with himself about how much of a killjoy he was. It was weird talking to yourself even though it was something everybody does, but for David it’s a little more complicated considering he had two souls, two set of memories and two personalities almost the same but with a lot of huge differences. David took the most fashionable and safe clothing he could find, and a face cap. He took the shoes that were thicker and bigger, his brother favored boots a lot, especially custom made ones with metal soles and stupid words with magical symbols. And then he went back to his room and grabbed a few extra things like his underwear and an extra toothbrush. There was no way he was sharing underwear with his brother, besides David actually had better underwear than that miserable bastard. David put everything he could into a duffel bag, the quad bike was modified by David because he wanted to travel in style. Disregarding the fact that traveling on a bike that flies with no back rest for thousands upon thousands of kilometers was extremely uncomfortable, David had made the Bike larger because he wanted it to smash through any obstacle, move well in rougher terrains, and have a bigger trunk space. But mostly its for the space. David dragged the clothe filled bag and the bag of guns back to the garage with way less ease than expected. By the time he got to the garage he was already sweating so hard you would think he had run for miles without resting. The first thing he did was install the power cell and had the rest of them charging and ready for use. Then David made some checks on the hover bike, yes he was going to call it hover bike from now on. It was classy and sounded better than just bike. Then he started the bike and this time it did not go off. Engaging its flight mode David felt it rise up about a meter of the ground. It was humming steadily and was a whole lot quieter than David expected a modified hover bike to be. He made a few rotations and made sure it’s remaining functions were online, like it’s head lights, brakes, GPS, and rear view cameras. Wholly satisfied with its performance, David loaded what ever had to be loaded into its trunk. He separated the food he was going to be eating for the next few days and then stored the rest along with the camping gear in the hover bike. Then he made his way to the tortoises with a hardened look on his face. It was time to see how much of a freak he now was.
