The further I got the more I could hear the laughter but I wasn't sure that I actually wanted to keep getting closer. The only reason I was still heading this way was because I couldn't just leave whoever it was crying behind, these people were insane and if I had to I guess I would have to kill them to make sure they couldn't harm anyone else.
The cry sounded like a child of maybe 8 or 9 years old and I was sure I knew which hut after seeing him go over and laugh. I would most likely have to kill him at some point to be honest. I had never left any child to fend for themselves before so that would not happen this time either. I wouldn't let the innocent die even if it meant I wouldn't make it to the end of this stupid game but I highly doubt any of them could kill me anyways.
The closer I got the more I could smell blood, it was sweet and metallic like, which meant that they had been killing people for a while. I knew the difference between animal and human blood because I was an under cover agent that had gone under with the New York Italian Mob before my daughter was born. I only got out of the whole situation because I accidentally got pregnant and my bosses decided we would fake my death and move me to Montana to raise my daughter in peace with my Mother. I had thought I was infertile for years so I had never worried about it before and when I found out I wasn't prepared to not have my child by any means so it had to be a clean get away. I was appalled that anyone was horrible enough to do what either of the men had been talking about but I knew all to well with the crowd I use to be infiltrated into that these weren't even the worst that could be out here.
I heard a cleaver hit a cutting board and almost jumped out of my skin, it's just someone making dinner... out of a cow... or a lamb...
When I got to the hut I started to hear loud foot steps or more of stomping coming in our direction and I was sure she was in there because I heard her whimper for a moment and back into the end of the hut I was on.
"Hey...." I whispered into the tent canvas, "move out of the way and I'll get you out of there." as she moved the buzzing started in everyone's ears again, coming from the head sets stuck to us and a perfect distraction because the big guy fell to his knees with a whimper like he already had a migraine maybe. I cut the canvas and scooped the terrified girl up into my arms before sprinting back into the bushes that I had come out of originally. "Are you alright? Is anyone else in there?" she didn't speak at all just sat there covered in something horrible that stunk and stared at the ground.
The buzzing started again, "As you've found out I'm sure, I was serious about there being paid murders out there and hidden weapons. Happily the c*****e has stayed within the perimeters that I've directed but I'm sure things will get more interesting as the night continues. We are down to 45 participants that were kidn*pped but there have been many more deaths than 5 of you. Start searching the bodies and you may find someone familiar, only one of you has your family waiting here with me being treated like royalty. I hope you all found a prize because if you haven't there will be a s*******r in the next couple hours, you wouldn't want to be caught without any weapons my dears. Good luck, you're going to need it."
That woman reminded me more and more of someone but I couldn't seem to figure out who she reminded me of or maybe who she is. "Are you alright? We need to get out of here before that psycho figures out you're gone."
"Where is she!? Find her!! Now!!" he wailed... Too late, he knew she was gone already.
"Come on, I'll get you out of here sweet heart," she came over and let me pick her up as I had before, "this is no place for a cute little girl like you." I ran off into the woods hopping that whatever the lady on the head phones was talking about wouldn't find us if we stayed out of the way but close by to be able to see what happens to the people here.
The unintelligent mountain man was yelling orders and stomping around loudly, while I had climbed with the little girl and sat us on a high flat branch in an old maple tree so we could get comfortable. I would be on the look out for anything that could have been left up here at any point. To my surprise there was another back pack that was extremely similar to the one that I had found earlier that day but much smaller. It had a honey mixture in it that smelled medicinal and tasted sweet so I gave some to the little girl on some bread that was also in the bag. I wrapped her in a blanket that was in there and she cuddled into my arms as we sat on the ledge.
"Where could this child of gone? This isn't possible... she just disappeared? Someone knows something!!" I don't think he had listened to the ladys warning because if he had he would know that we're all fare game to whatever she was setting loose on us. He must have been someone important because he didn't seem to think anyone would dare come break her out. Everything was quiet for a little while and then I bolted up to the sound of sceams and looked down to see a woman laying below with blood coming from her eyes like tears. Her leg was badly torn up and her clothes were bloody.
She was moving a little bit and I heard her say, "Run...." softly then a little boy crawl out of her coat and started heading in the direction of the water fall, hopefully he found his way to safety and not more of this craziness.
The huge thug came into view and grabbed the woman by her lifeless arm pulling her up and then dropped her, "She's dead, where's the boy? Search for him!" he grabbed her by the hair and shook her a bit as if he didn't want to believe she had passed away, then he dropped her again. Seeming to have lost his attention he wandered off to find something but the moment he went out of sight I heard a loud thud and a groan... then he flew at the tree trunk we were above and smashed a body print into it, I felt the tree shutter and held the little girl close to me in hopes she wouldn't move to look over the edge. Once I was sure she wasn't going anywhere I peaked back down to see a very large dog type animal nawing at his arm and then another one showed up grabbing the other arm and tried to take the body. They fought over his remains for a while and then one of them caught sight of the woman's body and took the easier food choice out of the area. That made our stay up here a must at least until the sun came back up, it had been dark for a few hours already and the sounds that I was hearing now were not lulling to sleep type melodies so I'm sure I wasn't the only one that got no sleep in that tree.
I was glad that I knew how to climb and had gotten us up here when I did but my thoughts wandered to the little boy and the man I had seen earlier. I was hoping that they found safety and we would meet up with them at some point but I still wasn't sure what was going on with the mysterious man from behind the waterfall. We would find out at some point though, I'm sure of that.
