Back to the Tunnel behind the Wall of Water

After everything that had happened, I wanted to make sure that my speechless little friend got some rest and ate a good meal so we headed back to the waterfall by following the creek. When we got there I showed her how to get into the tunnel behind the falls and then lead her down to the room I had found with the bed and wood burning stove that I already had food preparing on so that she could get some sleep.

After showering in the make shift shower and letting me wash her clothes, I cleaned up her hair including detangling it so I could make a beautifully long braid out of it a great deal like my own. She was an absolutely beautiful little girl and really shined through now that she was all cleaned up. I hoped that she would warm up to me after some sleep and a good meal, the duffle bag had an outfit similar to mine in it and new running shoes. The sizing was perfect so I was sure these bags were carefully thought out before being placed where I would find them. At first I thought maybe the duffle had been left for her but then as I got into the rest of its contents I realized it was for me and they knew I had saved her so I wondered why I was getting help for breaking rules or did it have to do with the fact that the money didn't matter to me.

"Go get some sleep, we're safe here. I'll get food ready so we can eat when you wake up and then we can get back to our search." she went over to the bed and curled up hugging the pillow, it didn't take long for her to fall back asleep which didn't surprise me at all. We had been through a great deal together but I was sure that she had been traumatized by those nasty monsters that I saved her from.

I was glad that I could be her safe place in this hell we both got thrown into, I wonder why she was put here and how anyone could be so evil that children were trapped to be slaughtered and tortured with the rest of us. I felt for the ones I couldn't get to and wished I could at least burry them but I knew I wouldn't have time for that. We had no idea if there was a time limit to get to the gates or anything that went with the new rules once we got passed the gates.

I washed the blanket that I had given to the young girl and placed it on top of the back pack I had packed with herbs, roots, edible berries, dried meats and flowers that were also edible. I had also filled the flasks that we had with water and as I checked the soup I found another flask which I filled with soup that way it was packed for later. I stored the feathers from the pheasants in a pocket to a pouch that had been in the duffle and after drying the rabbit pelts I put them in the other pocket to the pouch before stashing it in the back pack with the rest of the things.

I planned to keep the pheasant meat for my journey and put it in a container that had been in the duffle bag then stored the bones in a bag that I attached to my belt, they would most likely come in handy at some point. As I cleaned my mess and started to look through the bag some more I saw my my little friend start to stretch. She was waking up just in time to eat and then get ready to figure out what we were going to do next. I got excited when I found more arrows for my cross bow and a nice jacket for.... I needed to know her name. "Hey there sweetheart, could you come try this jacket on please? I want to know that it fits you and foods ready to eat. I almost have us all packed up to get going, we shouldn't sit in one place for long if we want to avoid the chaos going on all around." she came over with a glimmer in her eyes that hadn't been there before so I asked, "What's your name, you don't have to say anything else if you don't want to but I'd like to know your name please?"

She leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "Abby" that was all I heard from her but that was good enough for me.

"Well, Abby.... that jacket looks pretty good on you, let's keep it on alright?" she nodded her head matter of fact like and sat down at the table so I brought her a bowl of soup and went back to going through the duffle bag.

It had a hatchet that came with a holster which I attached to my side and a knife that I would give to Abby when I felt she was ready to start training. She seemed pretty strong and I was hoping that she would snap out of this fast so we would be able to fight together. As she finished her soup, I heard a noise outside of the holes that the water drained through and got closer so I could check what it was.

"I can smell something coming from the bath rooms, we should check to see if anyone found them." the strange and creepy brothers were out there and they knew this place existed..... we had to get out of here before they found us! I moved fast putting everything I could into the bags and getting them on my shoulders before motioning for Abby to follow me.

"We have to go, there are bad men out there planning to come in the tunnel any time now. Do you want me to carry you or do you want to walk?" she walked over, nodded her head and pointed to her feet, "walk it is, let's go darling." she followed closely behind me as we traveled down the dark tunnel. I had no clue what was down this way but I knew that she wasn't ready for a fight and could get hurt with two of them and only one of me, I had no clue how good of fighters they were and didn't want to risk her getting snagged up or worse so we continued into the darkness.

After a bit of walking I heard loud foot steps heading in our direction and then one of them say, "No, stop. Who ever it is won't make it far, they'll get killed or run back sooner or later, let's wait here. You know those things only listen to Ma, they'll eat us if we go after who evers in there."

"Ok, let's wait then... looks like they left so really nice smelling rabbit soup, want some?"

I hadn't left much and we were both full but I had made sure to add lavender to what was left before we ran out of the door so if they ate it they would absolutely be falling asleep for a bit so we would have time to get far, far away just that whatever they had been talking about didn't find us and eat us.....
