Being the protectors of the sea and mainly the kingdom, Max and Daniel were faced with many threats, like Humongous, the man-beast, a mutant sea creature. The creature had an extraordinary ability to revive after death, causing havoc and chaos in the ocean. Their main objective was to keep him away from the coast of New York, as it would keep civilians safe. Daniel was the one on offense, killing the creature over and over again with his fireballs. He attacked Max several times, but, thanks to his speed, he was swift and hard to hit, giving the creature spine-breaking punches. Max stopped fighting because he felt strange, then, unexpectedly, he unleashed a huge shark with lightning for a tail that swallowed Humongous whole, then disappeared as Max went unconscious.
Daniel took him to the kingdom, and when he was confirmed okay, they got back to the surface. He quickly asked him how he unleashed that huge shark, but Max had no answers. The watch then told them that Max summoned his spirit animal known as the great white. Max was shocked and asked how it was possible. The watch told them that since they are not ordinary Mermaidians, supernatural phenomena must occur with them. Daniel then asked why his animal hadn’t appeared, but the watch told him that he had to be patient, and it was because Max was older than him, so it would take time for his animal to pop up. Max wanted to summon his animal to a normal level, so they transformed and went back into the sea. He successfully summoned it, and it was bigger than what they saw before. He needed a name for it, so he called it “Blue Lightning” because of the way its tail was formed. Daniel got impatient and tried to summon his own. He thought he could do it on the first try, but nothing spawned in. Being the eldest, Max told him to stop.
But the watch informed Daniel that the only way for his animal to appear was by anger at their age. So Daniel had had enough and thought of what made him angry, and it worked. What appeared was a gigantic eel with a spark of electricity. The watch further explained that their spirit animals could only be active for 10 minutes and needed over another ten minutes to recharge if they were in a battle.
Daniel named his animal “Shockwave” as it represents the spark of electricity in its chest. They toyed with the animals for a while until the unexpected occurred. Max bumped his tail on Shockwave, and Daniel bumped his own tail on Blue Lightning, causing something incredible to happen. Their powers collided with the animals; Shockwave got Max’s speed of light, and Blue Lightning got Daniel's heat wave. Of all the wristwatch’s years of experimenting, it had never experienced such an amazing discovery. Max and Daniel were shocked but got hyped about it; then suddenly, the animals de-spawned due to the time. Back at the surface, Daniel interviewed for a job and got the position, but it was in California. They said their goodbyes, and Daniel was out of New York to start his human life in California.
