Chapter 2: Novah and a Stupid Wolfy Claim

1328 Words
The next day, Novah woke up earlier than usual. After leaving the diner, her parents questioned about the group of kids, rather her mother going off about the crappy kids bullying her baby. Novah had just waved it off, stating that the people of the pack meant nothing to her and that it wouldn't matter after she graduated as she planned on leaving. That had turned into minor sob-fest as her mother hugged her to her tall form, babbling about how her baby was growing up too fast for her liking. Novah smiles as she thinks back to last night as she poured milk into her cereal. She absolutely loved and adored her parents. To her, they will always be her real parents, even though the circumstances weren't fair to begin with. It didn't change the fact that luck was on her side when they found her rather than someone who could have potentially cause her harm. Her head looked up at the sound of someone walking down the stairs. Artem sauntered down, yawning as he slipped into the kitchen. Giving her a smile, he leaned down and gave her a quick kiss on her head before going to make coffee. "What has you up so early?'' Novah shrugged as she took another bite of cereal. "Who knows this time. You getting ready for work?'' "Ah, no actually. I have to go to the Pack house for a meeting. Alpha Charles is a bit concerned with...'' Novah looks up to see her dad's eyes glaze over. She gets up and walks over to him, turning off the water and taking the pot out his hands and places it on the countertop. She then gently pulls him over to sit before continuing his task. Just as she pushed the button to start the machine, Artem continues as if he hadn't been stopped by a vision. "...a group of rouges that have been attacking other... Huh.'' He says looking around before giving Novah a chuckle. "You know you don't have to do that, right?'' "You know mama hates it when the water runs. What was your vision about.'' Artem tilts his head in confusion. "I actually don't know. I can't remember it.'' "Looks like you're getting too old for this huh?'' Novah said teasingly. Artem glares at her with mirth as he gets up to grab some bread for the toaster. "I am in my prime. Thirty-four is not old!'' Novah leans over with a faux scandalous look. "I know but thirty-five is.'' "I heard that!!'' a muffled yell came from upstairs. Novah looks at Artem in betrayal. "Why didn't you tell me she was awake!'' ----- Two hours later, the redhead was walking up the steps towards the entrance of the school, with only a few moments to spare. Of course with her luck, even waking up early she still las late. She watched as people bustled around, greeting each other with excitement and she couldn't help but feel a bit envious. Sure a few people talk to her here and there but it was mostly for school work. All because they thought she was human. Ever since a couple centuries ago, when the supernatural made themselves known, humans were practically the bottom of the food chain in a sense. Humans were scared at first but once they realized that they were overpowered, the Elites of the world made a peace treaty with the High Council and the two worlds have lived in harmony since. Well mostly. There were a few groups on each side that were a bit prejudiced but that was to be expected. It was just in that nature whether human, non human, nature. There was always a food chain and humans were just at the bottom. Of course she wasn't human but she didn't really expect the people of this pack to be dim as to ignore the power she held. Then again, she never shows it off so she supposed it wasn't that obvious. "Told you.'' Aoife said, smug like. Novah just rolls her eyes before slipping through the crowd for another day filled with the slow droning of the teachers and people who knew nothing about personal space. "You sure you don't want to take over?'' The redhead asks her fox, disregarding the looks sent her way. "Nah, you should ditch instead.'' Aoife pushed. Novah shook her head, not wanting to face her mother's wrath knowing the school would call and inform her of Novah's absence. She smiled when Aoife feigned offence and walked into the classroom and took her seat near the window. She stared longingly at the trees before resting her head on the table, looking at the students as they filed in, the bell shrilling in her ears. She had gotten used to it years ago, but it still was sharp in her ear. “Okay class, today we’ll be learning about Genomic Sequencing…’’ Novah closed her eyes and stared towards the trees again, the teacher’s words filled her ears as she spoke about gene coding and whatnot. She smiled as she saw a fox trot through the trees, thankful that the windows were low enough to see the ground. The first half of the school day was pretty much the same, her staring outside or sleeping. Luckily Aoife helped when she did manage to sleep and kept mental notes for each lesson. When lunch rolled around, she eagerly raced to the lunch room. Of course, the cafeteria was as wild as ever. It was one of those days where the football team actually at in the area and not go off doing god knows what so the room was more rowdy than usual. She could already feel a headache coming on as she halted when one of the players moved in her line of vision. Not that they would even notice and once more, she was a bit envious but not as much as she was sympathetic to the actual three humans in their school. Once she paid for everything, she maneuvered through the packed room, only to be pushed from behind by someone loud. clutching the items in her hands, she was prepared to regain her balance when she knocked into someone. Arms wrapped around her as well as the familiar scent of Pine and sandalwood. She made a face when she felt the person inhale and she immediately tried to pull away but the arms tightened around her. "No way.'' a deep voice whispered. She then took notice of the sheer silence of the cafeteria. Looking up, she saw familiar but not quite familiar green eyes that were filled with awe and happiness before they turned cold. This time when Novah pulled away, they let her. She looked up at the tall teen and saw the curly black hair and beautiful green eyes. They reminded her of her home country. They also reminded her of Megan. She wondered if he was related to the she-wolf from yesterday. That girl always had it out for her. Shaking her head, she tuned back in as the male spoke in a loud voice and she winced at the volume. "I, Theo Josiah, Future Alpha of the Grey Dusk Pack, reject you, Novah Hale as my mate and future Luna." That caused Aoife to burst out laughing so forcefully that Novah had to steel her face to avoid laughing as well. “Stupid wolf thinks he has claim on us, HAH!’’ Novah was completely lost. Either way, this guy was nuts and the taco's in her hands were getting cold. She felt her palms buzz as they heated up. 'It should be fine. What Ila doesn't know won't hurt her. ' Novah thinks about her mentor as she pushes past...Theo? She didn't want to know what that was about, not realizing she was muttering to herself again as she exited the still silent cafeteria and headed towards the Library.
