Chapter Three - The Wedding

1174 Words
Three Months Later Amaranth slowly walked up to the mirror, the expression on her face was a mix of sadness and surprise. Surprised that she was given such a lovely dress to wear, a white mermaid dress with off the shoulder lace sleeves. With her only being about 5’2”, even with the heels, the train on the dress looked a lot longer than it would have if she was taller. Though she genuinely loved the dress, she couldn’t help but to feel sad that she wasn’t allowed to wear one of her late mother’s ceremonial dresses. One that will allow her to have both a piece of her mother and her heritage as a witch with her on this day. She continued to look herself over in the mirror, making sure that nothing was out of place, since she was not given any help. After a moment, there was a knock on the door. Upon looking at the door to see who it was, she let out a breath that she hadn’t realized that she was holding. Margaret, her godmother, walked in, slowly taking in how gorgeous, yet sad the girl she viewed as her own daughter looked. Margaret was the current Supreme at the coven, acting in Amaranth’s place. Though they technically weren’t supposed to have communication while Amaranth was a “member” of the Midnight Moon pack, they would often sneak contact through letters, updating each other on the conditions of their residences. “You look lovely, my dear.” Margaret whispered as she gathered Amaranth in an embrace. “Thank you,” Amaranth whispered back with a smile, quickly picking up on the fact her godmother must be whispering for a reason. “I know that this is hard for you and for many different reasons. But I did bring something that I think will make this a bit more bearable.” Margaret took a step back, pulling out a jewelry box. A genuine smile began to cross Amaranth’s face as she immediately knew what was inside the box. Opening it, Margaret carefully took out the necklace. It was white gold, beaded with rubies. Amaranth turned around for her godmother to put the necklace on her. “Although she can’t be here with you physically, at the very least you should have a piece of her here with you today”, Margaret whispered, putting the jewelry box away and looking at her goddaughter through the mirror. They fell into a comfortable silence, both thinking about the woman who they lost five years ago. That woman was a mother to Amaranth and a best friend to Margaret. “I should go now. It’s almost time for the ceremony to start. Plus, I kind of pulled a disappearing act on your god-brother”, Margaret whispered with a hint of amusement. Amaranth gave her a nod. She knew the amount of antics that her godmother could get into. And it also confirmed that they were whispering because she wasn’t supposed to be there. About 10 minutes after Margaret left, Beta Simon came into the room. He let out a whistle which made Amaranth giggle. The two of them always had a good relationship. Beta Simon knew from the beginning that she was Alpha Michael’s daughter. He never approved of how the alpha treated his daughter, whether she was a product of his infidelity and lies or not. She was still of alpha blood and Beta Simon believed that she should have been treated as such. And so he always made an effort to treat her with respect and it was something that Amaranth deeply appreciated. She looked at Beta Simon as a father figure in her life. And she was genuinely happy to know that he would be the one escorting her down the aisle. It wasn’t a surprise when Luna April voiced that she did not want her mate to have that role. Beta Simon and Amaranth smiled at one other as they left the room, walking towards the main hall within the pack house. As they approached the door leading into the hall, they paused and linked arms. Amaranth took a deep breath, and gave Beta Simon a nod. The Beta then gave a nod to the two men in front of them and queued them to open the doors. The main hall was decorated with white lilies. The decorations were simple, just enough to give the sense that there was a wedding being held. Everyone was already seated. Alpha Dimitri was standing at the end of the aisle, watching along with everyone else as Amaranth and Beta Simon made their way towards him. He couldn’t help but to be blown away by how beautiful she looked. Her dress was simple but hugged her frame nicely and the necklace that she was wearing brought it all together. Alpha Dimitri did wonder why the Beta was walking her down. And he did make a note of the fact that she wasn’t looking at him, and seemed to be making an effort not to. Beta Simon handed Amaranth off to Alpha Dimitri with a small smile at both of them. Dimitri and Amaranth walked the last few steps to the altar, standing side by side. The ceremony starts with the typical remarks. Every now and then, Dimitri looks at Amaranth from the corner of his eye, with Amaranth doing the same. Both uncomfortable for different reasons. Dimitri tried to make sense of his choices; should he have gone down this route to make a connection with her. Wondering what she thought of him, did she remember any of their past small interactions? Will she hate him for this? Amaranth was wondering why someone like him agreed to an arrangement like this. If he was aware of who she really was, the daughter of an alpha. What did someone like him have to gain from an arrangement like this? The ceremony was close to its end, with the bride and groom being prompted to face one another. Upon facing each other, Amaranth made eye contact with Dimitri for the first time. For a moment she couldn’t breathe. She thought that her mind was playing tricks on her when thinking that she saw an expression of love in his eyes. She quickly looked away from him and went to pick up his wedding band and pushed it onto his finger. Dimitri watched as she finished putting his ring on his finger and went to grab hers. Weddings were something that was a rarity in his world. He had wished that his entire family could have been here to see this moment, but only his younger sister, Sophia, and Alpha Damon were able to attend. He placed the ring onto her finger with a small smile, a sense of content washed over him as he now officially had a claim over her. She is no longer a member of the Midnight Moon Pack, she is now part of the Scarlet Moon Pack.
