Chapter 2

2517 Words
I stood there staring at Emily, stunned and confused. What in the world does she need to tell me that is going to cause me to need to escape? I mean, I was working on a plan to escape this weekend during Caleb's party, but what else is there? Could Emily be going crazy or something because it isn't like her to hide things from me? What does she know? Why would she hide anything from me? "Bree!!" Emily yells at me, drawing me out of my thoughts. "Why?" I whisper. "Why are you keeping things from me?" I asked her. "I'm sorry Bree, I was sworn to secrecy." "By who?" "Beta Aden..." I stared at her shocked. What is going on? What does Beta Aden have to do with anything? "Bree?" "What is it you are hiding from me?" I asked her. Frustrated that she has been keeping secrets from me. She has been my only friend here. The only person i have been able to trust. Beta Aden has never been cruel or mean to me but he also hasn't gone out of his way to be nice either. "Bree, have you ever wondered about who was in those other cells?" What? I never really thought about it. I just assumed they were like me and only allowed to help clean. "I just assumed they were like me and only allowed to clean and to not be seen." I replied in a hushed tone. "Oh no my girl, they are not like you. And it's not just girls/women down there. There are men too." "Who are they down there?" I asked. I feel like she's trying to stall telling me what really is going on. "You're right, i am stalling. I'm just nervous about what is to come." What? Can she hear my thoughts? I'm I going crazy? She starts laughing at me and i tilt my head and give her a confused look. "Yes, I can hear your thoughts. And no, you are not crazy." she laughs. "Okay, so what is going on? What is to come? And who are those people down in the cells with me?" "Bree, the cell where you have been being held is the pack prison. And you have been held down there since you came here because Alpha Carter said he didn't know where you came from and he wasn't going to let "some mutt" live amongst his pack and not know anything about them." "Thats crazy! I was just a baby when i came here. And I had no acknowledgment of anything before then, except my mother's voice reading me that story." I replied. "I know Bree. Please listen to me carefully." " Okay" I'm really getting worried about what is going on here. "Bree, I came here at the same time as you did. Your parents and i were very good friends. When you were born, I was your mother's maid and best friend. You were born with a mark on your right hip and your mother said to keep it hidden until she found out what it was. Have you not noticed the mark?"She asks. "I mean, I have noticed it. I just thought it was a birth mark. Come to think of it though, it does look like a crown with two stars studding the top." "Yes, I thought it was just a birth mark too, but I trust your mother, so I did as she asked. That night, your mother was visited by the moon goddess in a dream. The moon goddess told your mother that you were a special gift and were to be cherished." "Then why am i here and not with them?" I asked. "The moon goddess also told your mother that you have a big job ahead of you. She said you needed to stay hidden and protected. Your mother and father argued for days but eventually decided that on your second birthday they would send you with me to go live in the Lunar Light Pack." WOW And that is a lot to take in. And now I'm just left with more questions. "Your questions will be answered with time my girl. We don't need to worry about that right now." "What happened? How come we didn't make it to Lunar Light?" I asked, worried. "Well, on the way here we were stopped by a group of rouges right inside this packs borders. Beta Tony, Aden's father, was there almost immediately and fought off and killed the rouges. He told me to run and get as far away from here as possible, but before i could run, Alpha Carter showed up and demanded we return with him. He was short-staffed, so he decided to make me work around the house to help pick up the slack and you were made to stay in the cells. He would let me take breaks the first several years so i could care for you throughout the days." All of a sudden we heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen. Emily quickly looks at me and says "meet me back here in the stair well after we finish fixing dinner" and with that we rush to see what is going on. I rushed into the kitchen to see Beta Aden with an angry look on his face throwing a bowl of fruit up against the wall. Once he sees us, he pauses and a look of what i think is relief washes over his face. I suddenly got really nervous because I remembered I'm not supposed to be seen. He looks at me and I immediately lower my head, waiting for whatever punishment I'm about to receive. But no punishment comes. Instead, Beta Aden takes me by surprise and crashes into embracing me with a tight hug. He pulls back, looking me over, and I just stand there frozen in confusion. Emily walks up beside me and explains that she told Beta Aden everything about my parents. And that he was going to help all three of us escape to Lunar Light Pack. That's right. Beta Aden is going to be coming with us to Lunar Light and help us plan a escape. Beta Aden still hasn't found his mate. He is only 23 and the only reason he is the Beta already is because his dad passed away after a rouge attack a few years back, right before Caleb left for Alpha training. He is a good looking guy if i do say so myself. He has broad shoulders and his biceps are so big he has to cut the sleeves off of most of his shirts or have them custom made. He is also very tall, standing at 6 foot 7 inches tall. He towers over Emily and I. Even though Beta Aden is so big and muscular, he also has kind eyes and a kind heart. I believe a person's eyes can show who a person really is. "Bree, as you know, the Alpha is selling young girls like yourself. For some reason, he considers you special over the other girls and that is why he allows you out of the cells and to come help with chores. The party this weekend isn't just for Caleb though. The Alpha has invited a few Alphas from Packs from different countries who are interested in purchasing you. So you, along with a few other girls, will be required to attend the party this weekend to "showcase the merchandise" as that sick bastard put it." Aden was seeing red with anger because of what the alpha was doing. Why was I so special to the Alpha? What is different from me and the other girls? It doesn't make sense. I'm going to figure out a way to free all those other girls too! No matter what. I'm done being held captive by a sick Alpha who thinks its okay to sell people. "Bree calm down, its okay. Lets focus on one thing at a time and I promise i will help get those other girls free." Oh, I forgot she can hear my thoughts. "I will help too, Bree. What the Alpha is doing isn't right and we will expose him for the monster he really is." Aden is fuming with anger at this point. For some reason, I feel the need to reach out and touch him. I'm not sure why. I have never felt anything like that before. To be honest, I have always been kind of scared of him. "Just touch him girl". I looked over to see Emily grinning at me. I slowly reached up and touched Beta Aden's shoulder and said "thank you for helping me." as soon as my hand touched his shoulder he shivered and seemed to instantly calm and relax. That was really weird. I wonder what that is about. He must be really stressed out. Or am I just imaging all of this? The week had flown by with nothing out of the ordinary happening. It's Friday, the day before the big party. Aden has just come to get me from my cell. I follow him as usual, but instead of taking me to the kitchen to Emily, he leads me down a long hall. i start to get worried and I don't know what to expect. We stop in front of a large door and Beta Aden turns to me and says "Alpha Carter wants you to have a nice dress for tomorrow's party." I can feel the anger rolling off of him in waves and it almost feels overwhelming. I feel the need to touch him again and this time it's stronger than last time. I reach up to touch his shoulder just like i did a few days ago in the kitchen, but this time before my hand can touch his shoulder, he gently grabs my hand and says "thank you Bree." He goes to open the door but I stop him. He turns to me and i ask " why have you been so kind to me this whole time?" He looks at me studying my face and, for some reason, I can't help but be drawn into his eyes. "The day my dad brought you back here with Emily, I was able to catch a glimpse of you before you were taking down to the cells. You smiled at me with those big green eyes and I knew from that day on I had to protect you no matter what. So i talked to my dad and told him and asked if he could help me train more. From that day forth, I have trained harder than everyone else and more than everyone else, just to make sure i would be able to protect you. The day my dad passed away was devastating, but i knew i had to step up before the Alpha chose someone else as Beta. I went to him and he agreed to let me go ahead and take the Beta position since i had been training so hard. So, at 19, I was made Beta and was put in charge of watching over you and taking you to and from where you needed to be. I'm going to get you out of here and I will always protect you. Where you go I will go." I couldn't think of any words to say to that. All I could do was smile and i couldn't stop it, nor did I want to. My heart was racing and i didn't understand the things i was feeling. Beta Aden led me into the room. It was a large conference room that had been filled with a countless number of beautiful gowns and just as many shoes. There was even a large table with exquisite jewelry displayed on it. When i walked in, there was a very well dressed man that came to greet me. "Hello miss, My name is Riley. I'm going to be helping you pick out your dress and all your accessories." Something about Riley made me feel like I could trust him and we would one day be good friends. "Okay, but i have no idea where to even start. I have never even worn a dress before," I said shyly. I saw Beta Aden go to leave the room and before he could, I called out to him. "Please stay.........I need your opinion." I wasn't sure why I did that but I wanted him to be with me for some reason. He looked at me and simply smiled before walking over to a chair near by and sitting. I try on so many dresses that I'm starting to think I wont like any of them and im going to have to just settle. My original plan was if the Alpha wanted to sell me, then I was going to show him how much money he is losing before we make our escape. That's right. I may not be able to go and do like someone normally would, but i know my worth and i refuse to let some no good Alpha sell me to the highest bidder. But I'll make sure to have some fun and throw in his face how much money he will be losing and he won't even know until it's too late. I snuck a glance over at Aden and noticed he looked bored just sitting playing on his phone. I decide to try on one more dress and if I don't love it then I'm going to just pick something random and call it good. I walked behind the changing curtain and slipped on a beautiful velvet emerald green gown. The straps were very thin and the neck line was draped and laid perfectly over my chest. careful to show just enough and not too much. I wasn't blessed with a very large chest, but my chest definitely wasn't small either. The velvet flowed down my body and clung to my every curve. From about the knees down, the dress flowed into a mermaid-style cut. This was the dress. I never wanted to take it off. As soon as the dress was on, Riley came and helped finish zipping the back of the dress. He brought me a pair of gold strappy heels that went perfectly with the dress, along with an obsidian pendant necklace with a gold chain. I stepped out from behind the curtain and walked to a floor-length mirror they had provided and admired how beautiful this dress was and how good I felt in it. I never imagined feeling this good in a piece of clothing. I decided to call out for Aden to get his opinion. As soon as I did, he looked up at me and his eyes went wide. His eyes turned as black as the obsidian necklace i was wearing with some flakes of gold throughout. The way he was looking at me did something to me that I didn't understand. Something I also didn't want to end.
