Guard duty at night can be quite monotonous. As I leaned against the wall, I took a deep breath and enjoyed the coolness of the night air. Suddenly, a chilling howl cut through the silence, sending shivers down my spine and causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. This was no ordinary howl; it sounded like the cry of a wounded mate. Without hesitation, I raced to the railing and peered into the dark woods, spotting Raven in her wolf form running towards me at full speed. Her usually vibrant fur was now faintly glowing and she looked weak and exhausted. My heart sank as I realized something must have happened to her.
"Open the gates immediately and summon Kyleen and Cody now!" I yelled to the other guards, who were taken aback by my urgency.
