3.28 The days and weeks wore on and with each sunrise Yvette withdrew a little more from the world around her. She forced herself out of the house when she had to deliver junk mail or visit the doctor for a pregnancy check-up. Even choir was a drain on her scant energy, and the trip to Gordon’s house for painting sessions were now too far. After her last visit, she’d phoned to explain, insisting he keep her painting. Sadness had tightened her throat, not knowing when or even if she’d see him again. She couldn’t face calling Thomas.
