4.4 Her mood didn’t rise with dawn. She opened her eyes to the brightening day as Heather got out of her bunk. She kept still and watched her friend slip on a dressing gown and head out of the room with her toiletries bag tucked under an arm. Then she threw off the covers and gathered a sarong around her torso, grabbed her own toiletries and followed Heather to the showers. She returned to an empty room. Heather’s towel was drying on the back of a chair. Yvette dressed and went to the kitchen, finding Heather preparing breakfast. ‘Morning, sunshine.’ Heather handed her a mug of tea. ‘Hungry?’ In minutes they were sitting in the main room with plates of fried eggs, tomatoes and slices of buttered toast.
