POV Seraphina
Consciousness felt like a heavy blanket I was struggling to lift. My entire body felt as if it had been run over by a thousand wild horses, every muscle screaming in protest, every bone aching as though it had been shattered and put back together incorrectly.
I was floating in a sea of darkness, numb and detached from reality. For a moment, I wished I could just stay there. I wished I could simply drift away into the eternal void, where there was no pain, no betrayal, and no heartbreak. Where I could finally be reunited with my babies, holding them safely in my arms where no one could ever hurt them again.
But fate had other plans.
A sharp, stinging pain suddenly shot through my arm, jolting me back to reality. My eyes fluttered open, heavy and resisting.
The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer cold. I was no longer lying on muddy ground or being soaked by freezing rain. Instead, a soft, warm sensation enveloped my body. I felt the smooth texture of silk sheets against my skin and the plush comfort of a mattress that felt like clouds.
Confused and disoriented, I slowly lifted my heavy eyelids.
My vision was blurry at first, but as it cleared, I realized I was lying in a room of immense beauty and grandeur.
The chamber was vast and elegantly designed, decorated in shades of deep midnight blue and silver. Crystals hung from the ceiling, casting a soft, magical glow that illuminated the space. The air smelled of sandalwood and fresh rain, a scent that was calming yet strangely imposing.
This was definitely not the Death Forest. And this was certainly not my old home.
"Where... am I?" I whispered, my voice hoarse and cracking, barely audible. I tried to move, but my body felt like lead. I was so weak, weaker than I had ever been in my life.
As if in response to my question, the heavy double doors at the end of the room creaked open slowly.
Footsteps approached. Not hurried, not aggressive. They were slow, measured, and rhythmic.
Thump... Thump... Thump...
Each step echoed in the silence, and with every step that drew closer, the air in the room seemed to grow heavier. The pressure was suffocating, a weight that pressed down on my chest, making it hard to breathe. It was the aura of a supreme predator, the aura of someone who held absolute power over life and death.
My heart hammered against my ribs, fear spiking through my veins despite my exhaustion.
I turned my head slowly towards the entrance.
Standing there, framed by the dim light, was a man.
He was tall, incredibly tall, with a broad shoulders and a physique that spoke of immense strength and discipline. He was dressed in black leather and silver armor, attire that marked him as someone of the highest rank. But it was his face that captured my attention completely.
He was devastatingly handsome, with sharp, chiseled features that looked like they had been carved by the gods. His hair was black as night, falling slightly over his forehead. But it was his eyes that froze me in place.
They were a piercing, icy blue. Cold as the deepest winter, clear as crystal, yet holding a depth that seemed to see straight through my soul, past my physical wounds and into the broken pieces of my heart.
There was no hatred in his gaze, unlike Kaelen. There was no disgust. Instead, there was only intense scrutiny, and a strange, unreadable emotion that I couldn't quite place.
"You are awake," he spoke.
His voice was deep, smooth, and resonant. It vibrated through the air, sending a strange shiver down my spine. It was a voice that commanded respect, a voice that kings would lower their heads to hear.
"Who... are you?" I managed to stammer out, clutching the sheets tightly to my chest. "Where is this place? Why did you save me?"
The man took a few steps closer, stopping just beside the bed. He loomed over me, his presence overwhelming.
