Find her

1310 Words
Aiden’s pov I woke up with a pounding headache, my body aching and my bed empty. As I tried to get up, my senses were assaulted by the sweet scent of jasmine that lingered on my sheets. The memories of last night flooded my mind - the fiery passion, the wild abandon, and the utter ecstasy of it all. But as I looked around, the realization hit me hard. The Maiden I had been with had vanished, leaving me with nothing but the memory of her color. I groaned, rubbing my temples. How could she just leave like that? Didn't she know who I was? I was the Lycan king, the most powerful and feared creature in these lands. And yet, here I was, abandoned in my own bed like some commoner. I needed to find her, to know who she was, and why she had left me like this. I called out to Jaxon, my second in command, and my best friend. He appeared at the door, looking at me with concern. "What's wrong, Aiden? You look terrible." "I need your help," I said, my voice hoarse. "Last night, I met a Maiden, and we...we were together. But now she's gone. I need you to find her." Jaxon's eyes widened in surprise. "You don't even remember her name or where she's from?" "I was drunk, Jaxon," I snapped. "All I remember is that she had blue eyes and black hair. Find her, and bring her to me." Jaxon nodded, his expression serious. "I'll do my best, Aiden. But you have to understand, there are hundreds of Maidens in this city alone. It won't be easy to find her." "I don't care," I growled. "Just find her." As Jaxon left, I slumped back onto my bed, feeling the weight of the morning after. My mind wandered, trying to piece together the fragments of last night's encounter. Who was she? Why had she left? And why did I feel this desperate need to find her? I had always been a solitary creature, content to rule my kingdom from the shadows. But now, something had changed. Something had awakened inside of me, a need for companionship, for connection, for something more than just the fleeting pleasures of the flesh. As I closed my eyes, I whispered a silent prayer, hoping that Jaxon would find the Maiden I sought. I knew that finding her would not be easy, but I also knew that I had to try. For once in my life, I had found something worth fighting for, and I wasn't going to let it slip away. Hours passed, and I tried to occupy myself with the affairs of the kingdom, but my mind kept drifting back to the Maiden. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her eyes, and the scent of jasmine filled my senses once more. Jaxon returned in the afternoon, and I was immediately on my feet, ready to hear his report. "Did you find her?" I asked, my voice trembling with anticipation. Jaxon hesitated, looking at me with a mix of pity and confusion. "Aiden, I'm sorry. We searched all day, but we couldn't find her. It's like she disappeared into thin air." I felt a pang of disappointment, and then anger. "What do you mean, you couldn't find her? You're supposed to be the best tracker in the kingdom!" "I know, Aiden, but it's not that simple," Jaxon said, his voice softening. "We don't even know her name, or where she's from. It's like she was never here in the first place." I felt a sudden urge to howl, to rage against the fates that had denied me the one thing I wanted. But then, something inside me shifted. Maybe it was the exhaustion, or maybe it was the realization that I was being foolish. I sighed, sitting back down on my throne. "I understand, Jaxon. You did your best. I guess I was just...hoping for a miracle." Jaxon nodded, looking relieved. "I know how you feel, Aiden. But sometimes, the best thing to do is to let go. Maybe she wasn't meant to be found." I frowned, feeling a surge of bitterness. "And maybe she was just using me for her own pleasure, and then left when she got what she wanted." Jaxon placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I don't think that's true, Aiden. From what you told me, it sounded like there was something more between you two. Something...special." I looked up at him, feeling a sudden sense of gratitude. "Thank you, Jaxon. You're right. Maybe I'm just being foolish." Jaxon smiled, patting my shoulder. "That's what friends are for, Aiden. To tell you the truth, even when it hurts." As he left, I sat there for a long time, lost in my thoughts. Maybe Jaxon was right. Maybe I was just being foolish, chasing after a dream that could never be. But then again, maybe there was still hope. Maybe, one day, the Maiden would return to me, and we could be together again, in a way that was more than just physical. I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders, and yet also feeling a glimmer of hope in my heart. Maybe, just maybe, there was still a chance for love, even for a Lycan king like me. As I sat on my throne, lost in thought, I suddenly received a message from one of my scouts. They claimed that a group of shapeshifters had invaded our territory and were causing chaos and destruction. I felt a surge of anger, as I rose from my throne, my eyes blazing with fury. I had always been fiercely protective of my pack, and the idea of anyone trying to harm my people filled me with a primal rage. "Jaxon!" I barked, calling out to my second in command. "Gather the warriors! We have a battle to fight!" Jaxon nodded, looking grim. "Understood, Aiden. But are you sure you're ready for this? You seemed distracted earlier." I gritted my teeth, feeling a sudden surge of determination. "I may have been distracted earlier, but now I have a purpose. These shapeshifters have invaded our land, and it's our duty to protect our pack. I won't let them get away with this!" Jaxon nodded again, looking more relieved this time. "As you wish, Aiden. I'll make sure the warriors are ready. But be careful. We don't know what kind of shapeshifters we're dealing with." I growled, feeling a sudden surge of anger. "I don't care what kind of shapeshifters they are. They won't stand a chance against us!" With that, I led the charge, my pack warriors following me into battle. I felt a surge of adrenaline as we charged forward, our claws and teeth bared, ready to take down anyone who dared to threaten our land. The battle was fierce and bloody, with both sides taking heavy losses. But in the end, we emerged victorious, having driven the shapeshifters back and reclaimed our territory. As I stood there, panting and covered in blood, I felt a strange sense of satisfaction. Maybe it was the rush of battle, or maybe it was the sense that I had accomplished something important. Either way, I felt alive and powerful in a way that I hadn't felt in a long time. And yet, even as I stood there, triumphant, my mind drifted back to the Maiden. I wondered where she was, and whether she was safe. I wondered if I would ever see her again, or if she had disappeared forever. But then, I shook my head, banishing the thoughts from my mind. I had a pack to lead, and battles to fight. The Maiden would have to wait. For now, I was a king, a Lycan warrior, and nothing else mattered.
