Rachel returned home from the café, cooked dinner, and ate with Cora before taking her out in a taxi again. Since the day she drove Faith from the city to the suburbs, she had been trying to pick up passengers going from the city to the suburbs as much as possible. She worked the night shift and felt happy and accomplished when she could help others.
As Rachel drove back toward the city, her phone rang.
“Mommy, it’s your phone,” Cora said, handing her the earpiece.
Her chubby little hand was adorable, and her pretty face was bright and clear, with shining eyes.
