CHAPTER FOUR

764 Words
The house was on the edge of town, it was just too much- too big, too quiet, too clean. Jade felt something was off about the place. The man who lily came to meet was her ex boyfriend who she had planned to elope with. They were having a conversation about somethings adn things escalated quick, the only Jade could remember was being dragged away from the room by some huge and scary looking guys as she screamed her unconsious sister's name. Leo rushed up to where they were and he saw Jade in torn clothes and lily- his fiance unconscious on the floor. He didn't ask questions, he didn't blink he just looked at her with his Jaw tightened "You did this" Jade's eyes widened."W-What? No Leo, I-" "You drugged her?" He shouted"You little b***h, she's your elder sister" "I didn't!" Jade cried "They-they were-she was-" He didn't hear her, he wouldn't listen. "You were always envious of her, I mean you even tried seducing me- your sister's fiance. How did i not see it coming. The cold fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway flickered faintly as Jade crouched behind the edge of the partition wall, her back pressed against the cold tiles. Her torn blouse had been replaced with a borrowed hoodie from one of the paramedics that came with the ambulance. Her fingers trembled around the sleeve cuffs, her eyes swollen from hours of silent crying. Voices echoed from the reception area. Her family had arrived. Through the small gap in the wall, she saw her mother first — tall, elegant, jaw clenched. Her father beside her, stiff and unreadable. And her two older brothers, both broad and quiet, standing like stone statues behind them. And then Leo. Leo, who had once promised to protect Lily with his life. Leo, who’d once called Jade his “almost little sister.” He looked furious. But it wasn’t directed at the men who had hurt Lily. It was all on her. The nurse led them to a private room. Jade followed at a distance, unseen. Lily lay on the bed, still unconscious, a bandage across her temple. “What happened?!” her mother demanded, holding her daughter’s hand. “Who did this to her?!” Leo stepped forward, adjusting the sleeves of his blazer, calm and cold. “She was attacked,” he said. “And your other daughter… was involved.” Her father turned sharply. “What?” Leo’s voice was steady — too steady. “I caught Jade in the room. Her clothes were torn, and Lily was unconscious on the floor. When I asked what happened, she just stood there. Silent. Like she was guilty.” Jade’s heart pounded. Her lips moved silently. Please, don’t. Her mother stepped back, blinking. “No… Jade would never—” “She once tried to seduce me,” Leo added, cutting through the tension like a blade. “Months ago. I didn’t think much of it then. But now…” Silence. Jade stepped out of the shadows before she could stop herself. “That’s not true.” They turned to face her. Her mother’s face twisted in disbelief. “What did you say?” Jade shook her head frantically. “Mum, I didn’t… I didn’t hurt Lily. I didn’t try anything with Leo. He’s lying!” Her mother stared at her, then slapped her hard across the face. The sound cracked through the hallway. “You’re disgusting!” she spat. “Jealous of your own sister? Did you want to take everything from her?!” Jade’s legs wobbled, but she stayed upright, clutching her cheek, eyes wide with betrayal. Her father looked her up and down. Cold. Silent. Then he turned to one of the guards standing nearby. “Call the police,” he said. “Have her arrested. I want her out of here before Lily wakes up.” Her brothers didn’t say a word. Not one word. And as Jade was pulled away, tears streaming down her face, she realized — No one believed her. Not her family. Not Leo. Not even the people she loved most. Six months after she was arrested she suddenly went missing and no one from the Green family bothered to look for her or worry about her. END OF FLASH BACK Kevin returned to Jade's room and saw her in front of the mirror looking deep as if searching for something. Sensing his prescence she looked back at him and gave him a smile "Hi friend" He returned with a slight smile "Hi, Jade Green"
