CHAPTER FIVE

"Hi, Jade Green". She stood and smiled respectfully and formally,"Hello, Mr, Mathias." The sun filtered softly through the half open blonds of the hospital room, painting golden stripes across the bed. She sat cross-legged on the matress, her hair tied in a messy bun. Her eyes no longer had that silly, childish look, rather it carried a matured expression. She looked at Ethan who was examining her and said jokingly"You know when uncle Benett swore over his dead body will you take over the hospital, we thought he was too strict but now i see why". "Ouch" Ethan said faking the hurt. "No offense but Ethan doesn't look like a doctor at all, he looks like a lazyguy who loves watching rom-com with popcorns." "Oh wow," he said "the patient speaks so ill of her life saving physician. I feel attacked". Jade giggled, clearly enjoying herself."Life-saving?,You tripped over your own stethoscope last week." "I was testing gravity" he countered smoothly "It passed." Kevin shook his head, amused as the two bantered. Just then there was a soft knock, and a man stepped inside-Dr. Bennett, Ethan's father. His graying hair and stern face made the room instantly quieter. He glanced over at jade and asked her how she felt, she smiled at him and replied"Better than before, Ethan is suprisingly a good doctor." "That's good" He replied her and motioned subtly for Kevin and Ethan to step outside. They followed him to into the hallway, where his expression became serious. "So boys what do you guys plan on doing next, do yo even realize the gravity of the matter here" He said to the two young men. "Dad, listen-"Ethan tried talking to his father, but was interrupted before he could say anything. "You guys have to hand her over". He said with finalty. "No dad, we can't. Dad i know you know it deep within yourself that she is innocent" Ethan said trying bto reason with his father "And we can't rush her now, she doesm't remember anything that occurred in the past 4 years , so we can only wait for her" "Are you guys willing to do this despite all the dangers attached" "yes we are" kevin replied with no hesitation. "So how do you explain to her that she can't meet up with anyone from the green family" "I think you are the best person that can explain to her." Kevin said. Dr.Bennett sighed"Ok" He walked back into her ward and sat by her bedside "So Jade I'm gald you are all better now, Ethan's report said you can't remember the events that occured in the past 4 years" Jade sucked air in and replied "I seem to be missing some dates, but he said its temporal and i'll remember as time goes on". "Yes, all that is correct but for now i'll like you to avoid anyone from the Green familly, Jade a lot happened during this past 6 years you are missing." "Uncle bennett can you tell me what happened during this time, why can't i contact my family." "i can't tell you, you just recovered from a large illness and we don't want your brain and body stressing." "Ok uncle" "So you'll be staying at Kevin's place" The followimg week, she was in the car with kevin on their way to his house. The late afternoon sun washed the city in a gentle glow, tinting the skies a muted orange as Kevin's car hummed smoothly along the long, winding road that led away from the hospital. Jade sat quietly in the passenger seat, her face turned toward the window, watching buildings blur into trees, and then into wide strecthes of land. She hadn't asked many questions since they left. Kevin glanced at her once in a while. "Are you sure my prescence at your place isn't intruding?" She said finally glancing his way for a split second. "You are not" He answered simply, one hand on the wheel, eyes focused on the road. Jade gave a small nod, her fingers tracing a lazy shape on the fogged window. The rest of ride was quiet and peaceful.
