“Mind if I take you up on your offer?” Dirk asked Bay later that afternoon, after Tonio had briefed everyone on the next thing they would be dealing with. “Which one?” Bay replied distractedly, his concentration obviously still on what Tonio had told them. “Staying at your place when I start rattling around in my apartment.” Bay finally paid attention to him, chuckling as he replied, “I think I’m the one who said he rattled around, but sure. Tonight?” “Yeah, if it’s okay with you.” “You bet. Give me a minute. Do we need to stop by your place so you can get clothes for tomorrow?” “Since this is spur of the moment, yeah.” They did. It took Dirk all of three minutes to toss something into the messenger bag he rarely used—but was glad he had right now. Then they went on to Bay’s house.
