Ava looked up from her head as she heard clearly the sounds of unhurried footsteps, she immediately tensed up, her feet felt so cold that she thought she was in a cold ocean.
Soon the cackling sounds of chains resounded in the almost empty dungeon followed by an agonized scream from a woman, Ava shook in dread, she couldn’t make out any shape but she was sure it was probably the next cell, what were they doing to the lady there, she didn’t even want to think of it.
Soon the doors of her own cell opened with force, she subconsciously hugged her shoulders and shrank back, her fingers were frozen and still trembling, and she couldn’t even muster up the courage to look up at the person who just entered.
“Hello princess…” She froze, slowly lifting her eyes just for them to lock with the eyes of the man that had hunted her down last night, Alpha Karen, his brown eyes, even though beautiful seems like the devil himself.
“why…wha..wha..What do…?”
“Oh dear, what has these guys done to you?”
Alpha Karen walked to her side, squatted to her level and placed his tiny finger at her chin, he applied a little force and she fearfully lifted up her face, she looked into his eyes, and his face, instead of his usual arrogant smirk and smug look, his eyes were filled with anger and an inexplicable emotion that Ava found hard to understand. “Where is your brother?”
Ava eyes widened, why was he looking for her brother, what business does he have with him, she remembered the previous night he captured her, he still asked about her brother, she looked up at his face and into his eyes.
“Why...” She managed to voice out despite the look on his face, he suddenly smiled and stood up, he walked to the door of the cell still bearing that arrogant smirk.
“Why….” He began, “You will still get to find out.”
He winked at her before steeping out of the cell, he left the door open, whistling his way out. Soon, the two guardians of the dungeon, as Ava had guessed entered the cell and removed the numerous chains that was used to bond her, they forced her up and literally dragged her out of the cell since she wouldn’t use her feet.
Soon they appeared in front of a room, probably on the fifth floor since she was just too tired to count, her messy hair covered part of her eyes and her vision was blurry, the two men holding her, knocked unhurriedly at the door, before walking in, they threw her on the cold and tiled floor before leaving.
She managed to open her eyes and met with the pure red eyes of an intimidating man, he appeared to be in his thirties and had an imposing aura, Ava immediately cowed away, she kept her heads down.
“You seem scared.” She looked up at him, shocked by his tone, he doesn’t sound aggressive and imposing as he appeared, instead he seem a little curious and maybe worried, but there’s no way he will be worried right.
“You…what happened to you?” Ava hands vibrated at his question, the man looked her up and down, partially with disgust and partially with worry but she still can’t explain how the two could go hand in hand.
“Are you mute?” This time, his voice carried a trace of anger and impatience, Ava slowly lifted up her face to see his slightly raised eyebrow and furrowed brows, she shuddered at the magnitude of his anger, she had nothing to say and even if she knew the answer to that question, she was too scared to answer, besides she is yet to find his identity, she of coursed knew about Alpha Karen and even though he had some resemblance to this man sitting in front of her, she still couldn’t guesss his identity.
“Am Alpha Ethan and I understand you are the rogue captured by my brother, but from now onwards you are to be working in my palace.”
Ava looked up to him with shock written over her face, her knees hurt under the smooth rug, she opened her mouth and closed it again, she doesn’t have the energy to talk and more still, she doesn’t have the guts to ask the reason she had to work or why it has to be in his palace, even though she hated Alpha Karen but she felt much safer with him, his personality is cold but not as cold as his brother and worst still, she never heard any news about this brother of his.
“I…I…I can’t…Alpha Karen…he...”
“Shut it! since you will be working for me, I might as well tell you what I hate the most...”
Ava couldn’t meet his eyes so he looked at his perfectly curved and smooth lips instead as he uttered in a cool yet angry voice. “COWARDS…and you my dear, is the definition of one.”
He stood up from the stool where he sat this whole time immediately he finished talking, he strode with long strands towards her, he squatted to her level when he got to her and whispered rather eerily into her ears.
“My Gamma will come pick you up in three days’ time and you had better get this sorted before then.”
Ava knees gave way immediately the door was closed, she fell on her stomach on the floor as she breathed heavily, when she managed to calm herself down, she looked around the room, it was lavishly furnished with a big statues of a wolf before the bed stand, she wondered whose room is this, with this decorations she doubt it will be any body of low status, she looked at the comfy and king sized bed and suddenly felt the urge to roll on it like she always did while growing up.
The door was suddenly pushed open and a tall man with black long hairs and expressionless face suddenly entered, he revealed a shocked face when he saw her lying on the floor of his room, Ava recognized him as the person who apprehended her that night, he should be Alpha Karen Gamma, she shrunk back at this realization, but in as much she doesn’t want to talk to him, she had no choice because he might actually kill her if he find her in his room without any explanation.
“What are you doing here?” His voice was anything but friendly, he looked at her with deep killing intent, ready to kill her any moment, his fangs were already out and his claws slowly emerging from his fingers, his pupils slowly turning red, he advanced towards her in a flash and was already pinning her down before she knew what was happening, she never knew werewolves were this fast.
“What are you doing here….no, that’s not the question, how do you get here?”
He clutched her chin and made her look him directly into his eyes, that moment Ava felt her life draining before her eyes, she had no words to say, her body was trembling under his gaze.
“Am…a…am…sorry..” He drew her aside roughly when a knock was heard at the door, he gave her a final death glare before walking towards the door, Ava was stunned, she clearly saw deep hatred in his eyes, she don’t understand why a Gamma would hate her to that extent, she and her family were not the first rouge and won’t be the last, she didn’t do anything personal to deserve this kind of hatred oozing out of him.
Soon, he walked back to her with a rather calm expression which she found strange, she crawled away in fright but her back soon hit the wall and she stilled in her position.
“What did you and Alpha Ethan discuss..?” Ava was stunned at his question, but he seem impatient and angry so she quickly tried to explain.
“He…h...he said am to work in his palace from now onwards.” Her voice was low and timid, she doubt if he heard him but of course he did, after all he was a werewolf and has heightened sense of hearing, he paced round the room when he heard her affirm.
“You mean Alpha Ethan was inside this room until moments ago?”
“Ye…yes’ Ava gulped, wondering the reason for his strong reaction, but she soon got to find out the impact of the whole situation.
“Get out…” Ava was confused at his words but she soon staggered towards the door and pushed it open with shaky hands, to her dismay, she found Alpha Karen just outside the door, smirking darkly at her, she immediately shoved her head down but it was lifted by the smirking dude.
“Hello Princess” His hands under her chin caressed her skin and she felt goose pumps on her skin, unable to withstand his stare, Ava thought of an excuse.
“My lord, your Gamma is waiting inside for you...”
“You know who a Gamma is?” His voice was hoarse and held a hint of amusement, but the Moon Goddess came to her aid as he walked into the room. Immediately the door was closed behind her, a hand suddenly appeared and dragged her out of the hallway, she screamed at an impulse.
