It's been three months since I wedded the man of my dreams. An Alpha of a powerful pack. Zerv Anderson.
He was everything I wanted in a man. Handsome, powerful, and focused. Which is why his coronation as Alpha went smoother than we expected.
Despite all this, the last few weeks have been different. My sweet Zerv wouldn't even spare me a glance anymore.
True, our union was not out of love but at least he paid me a little attention before he was made Alpha.
Now, it wasn't the same anymore. He was always canceling our outings, excusing himself at odd hours of the day to sneak off to the maid's quarters.
I won't call it sneaking since I caught him but nonetheless, it was bothersome.
“I am not sure His Majesty is capable of cheating on you, Luna,” Milan, one of my most trusted maids spoke after I shared my suspicions with them.
“You think so? Then how do you explain his recent behavior?” I asked her.
“I think Milan is right, Luna. We can't just conclude that the Alpha is cheating because he visits the servant's quarters more often than not,” Melissa agreed.
I shot her a look, “then what busy does he have with the maid that pushes him to see her every day?”
“The Luna is right. I have seen the Alpha countless times with that maid and I can tell it is more than friendship. Have you seen the way they gaze at each other?”
As if the goddess was eavesdropping on us, she sent the very person we were discussing.
She walked in with her gaze on the floor. Her annoying indigo hair was getting on my nerves already.
“Good morning, Luna. I was assigned to clean your…”
“I'm not blind!” I snapped. “Go on with your work!”
“Forgive me, Luna,” she mumbled, returning to her work. I scoffed, glaring at her as she moped.
Words couldn't describe how much I hated her. She was the very reason my Zev didn't pay attention to me. He didn't even look at me the way he looked at her.
My chest tightened with jealousy. That starry-eyed gaze coated with love and affection like she was the one he could see.
The fact that she was unrealistically pretty made me detest her more. Why would anyone have indigo hair with turquoise tips and still have matching eyes?
That was probably what attracted Zev to her. Those turquoise eyes looked like they had some kind of enchantment in them.
Maybe that was why my Zev was hopelessly head over heels for her.
“Can you hurry up with that? You're not a slug” I groaned. I just wanted her gone from my sight.
“I'm sorry, Luna,” she apologized once again with that tiny innocent voice.
“Stop apologizing and get to work. You're annoying the Luna, Valerie,” Melissa said on my behalf.
Even her name was annoying to my ears. The girl's presence had a way of getting under my skin. Imagine having someone who outshone your beauty, in the same room with you effortlessly stealing your husband's attention.
“I'm trying,” she muttered.
“Of course, you'd be trying now, but when it comes to seducing my husband, you do it effortlessly,” I spat.
Her body stiffened immediately as she glanced at us with an innocent puzzled expression. Another thing I hated about her.
She knew she was guilty, yet she would pull off an innocent oppression like she was being oppressed.
“Luna, I…”
“Quiet, I didn't permit you to talk. Get back to work!” I cut her short.
She merely bowed and focused on cleaning.
“How do you do it?” I asked suddenly. She stopped cleaning once again.
“How do I do what your highness?” She asked me, blinking thoughtfully.
“How do you feel having an affair with a man that isn't yours?” I finished. Her face went pale.
“The Alpha and I are just close friends, your highness. We have been friends since our teenage years and…”
“I didn't ask for the history between you two. I just wanted to know how you feel sleeping with another woman's husband,” I interrupted.
“I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about,” she went back to her work.
“You haven't answered my question,” I got off my seat, “what would it take you to leave my husband alone?”
Her turquoise eyes darted to me with something that resembled anger.
“A man that wants to stay cannot be taken. He will always come back even if I stay away,” she responded.
“How dare you!” My hands swung across her face, causing a gasp to escape her lips.
