~~Kate~~ Dinnnnng~~~~ The sound drilled straight into my skull like it was personal. I groaned and buried my face deeper into the pillow, pressing it hard over my ears as if that would somehow make the noise stop. My head throbbed like it had been run over by a truck, reversed over for good measure, then left there as a warning. The room felt too bright even with my eyes closed, and my mouth tasted like regret and poor decisions. Dinnnnng~~~~ “Please,” I muttered into the pillow, my voice hoarse. “Not today.” The ringtone went off again, sharp and unforgiving, like it had no sympathy for suffering whatsoever.
