Ruby's POV
Ruby's eyes fluttered open as she gazed at the ceiling. It was dawn, and this time around, Carrick was not lying next to her. He'd kissed her deeply and promised to show up for the last time...that would be the time he would leave for his pack, and the time he would take her along with him.
In a way, she felt his absence and bit her lower lip at how she had hesitated to display her love for him last night. If only she had given herself the permission to speak, she would have sounded more obsessive than Carrick did. She craved nothing more than that at that moment.
Rising from the bed, she glanced at the window and took a peek at the trees outside. It reminded her of the oak tree she used to visit, and she felt like she had betrayed it for a long time now.
