Ruby's POV
He couldn't hear her sobs anymore, and when he looked down at her face, she was sound asleep, resting on his chest. Carrick gently laid her head on the pillow, then sat beside her, watching her closed eyes.
He toyed with the upper strands of her hair as he whispered softly, “I’ll never do anything to hurt you, Ruby. Trust me when I say that. And I hope you understand that your enemies are my enemies. I will inflict pain on every one of them until they feel the same pain you felt when they hurt you.”
Then he drifted into his thoughts again. She was right, right to be emotional, right to feel hurt, especially after finding out the truth from others. She had every reason to be upset. He had tried to cover it up, knowing she valued honesty more than anything. He really should hav
