Ruby's POV
Carrick rolled his eyes toward Ruby and cleared his throat. He was close to revealing the truth about what had happened to Sapphire.
"I wanted you to deal with them yourself. They showed up at the border and threatened us. Isn’t that funny?" Carrick said to Ruby, laughing...but he was the only one laughing.
"Where did you come from?" Ruby asked, turning to the seized men. They barely managed to speak before Carrick tried to silence them again.
"Tyrus," one of them finally said. Ruby felt a sudden intuition that stirred her curiosity to know more.
"They came from my former pack. Did you ask them why they're here?" Ruby asked Carrick. She rose to her feet, nearly walking toward the guards, ready to have the words whispered in her ear if they dared not speak aloud.
