Ruby's POV
Ruby was in the living room when Sapphire came down the stairs and their father stepped out of his room. She stared at the two of them, already thinking about leaving again and finding a place to be alone.
"I want to talk to my daughters," their father said, and Ruby reluctantly sat back to listen. "I’m glad you’re back home, Ruby."
He hadn’t even begun to admonish them when Sapphire suddenly slurred her words. She stood abruptly and rushed outside, coughing up white liquid. Their father and Ruby hurried after her, both shocked. He gently stood near her, running his fingers through her hair.
"What happened to you? Ruby, get some water for her," her father said, pulling Sapphire close while wiping her face with the water Ruby brought back.
