Carrick walked back to his office with mixed feelings clouding his mind. He noticed how the wolves behaved respectfully around him. His Beta must have done a great job silencing any curious questions about who Ruby was.
He buried his head on his desk as a flood of thoughts rushed through him. Ruby was finally here...but she had acted so strangely earlier, likely because of her painful past and the people who had hurt her.
Her mother had tried to ruin her wolf by signing her over to the feral rogues who continued to hunt her. And Tyrus...he had broken her heart by rejecting her the first time and choosing her sister. Her father, though he loved her deeply, wouldn’t let her leave to live a better life because he didn’t want to lose her company.
