Ruby's POV
The moment Ruby suspected that her father was trying to reveal information that majorly concerned her, she nudged him to come say it in his room. She didn't want to talk to Carrick or relate to him at that moment.
She was tired of being sorry. She wanted everything to vanish. She was tired of thinking about building a meaningful friendship, and she wanted to stay away from him as long as possible. Even though she wouldn't send him away, she also wouldn't talk to him.
"What did you want to say to me?" Ruby asked in a lovingly cute tone as she wrapped herself with the sheets her mother used to sleep on. Her father sniffed the scent on the sheets and his eyes grew glossy again. He sniffled and forced a smile.
