Chapter Two Anastasia Pov “Mother-in-” “Daniel Honey, did you eat anything this morning?” Mrs. Reed asked ignoring me as she moved to her son who was adjusting his tie. Just great. I moved to the desk, ready to grab my bag and head straight to my office. “Anastasia, what did you prepare for Daniel before coming here? Are you even supposed to be in the office, i thought you were supposed to be staying at home now while Daniel runs the company. Isn’t that what you two agreed on?” My brows scrunched as my gaze shifted from her to Daniel who was now avoiding my gaze. “Daniel, you told me that she agreed to stay at home while you handled all the work.” She stated as though I wasn’t in the office with them. Daniel and his mum spoke about me not coming to work and I wasn’t aware. Wow, that's solid. “Mu-” “No Daniel, she is your wife and if she’s busy here all the time how is she going to get pregnant?” My eyes widened and my lips thinned. “Mum! I told you we are both not ready-” My phone broke out into a noisy ring and while I pulled out the device from my bag. I turned to Daniel and passed him a knowing look before walking out of the office. “Hello,” I answered ignoring how cracky my voice came out. “Mrs. Ana- are you okay?” I didn’t recognize the voice, it was deep and clear. “Who is this?” I asked as I walked down the hallway to my own office. I placed my bag down but faced the window that overlooked the city. “Oh, my sincere apologies. Uhm- my name is Rachael, Mr. Graham’s assistant.” I rubbed the top of my forehead as I remembered that I was supposed to have a meeting soon. When I didn’t say anything she continued. “I’m really sorry if I’m calling at the wrong time, it's just that- well your mail said it was fine to call you-” “It's fine Racheal, just go on ahead,” I said to her and turned to my table. “Okay, but are you okay? I mean- you don’t sound- sorry but he’s asking if you’re ready,” she stated and I sighed, informing her that I would be in the next couple of minutes i ended the call. I settled on my chair and set my laptop on my desk while I got busy preparing for the brief call with Mr Graham. I placed my phone on silent and awaited the call to come in. “Good Morning Mr Graham,” I said as I joined the live video, for a second I wasn’t sure what I was looking at. The man on the other side of my screen or the other man present on the screen. Confused, my brows scrunched up and I crossed my hands over my chest and waited for both me to notice that I was ready. “-you should have seen her body, it was nerve-racking and that black dress she wore-” I had never seen Mr Graham before, so I couldn’t tell who he was seeing that they both sat casually. The one speaking had dark brown hair and wore a grey three-piece tweed suit with his red tie while the other one- well, his attention was focused on something outside the window and his body was half turned to me so it was difficult to see all of his features. “Excuse me but can we begin,” I said again, much louder this time and the guy in grey stopped talking and leaned closer to the screen blocking out the other man. “Geez- you’re hot.” He muttered and my frown deepened. “If this meeting doesn’t mean much to you then I think we can call off the deal,” I muttered clearly. “You’re causing trouble Marcus, leave, now.” A deeper tone said and the man in the grey suit smiled at me after muttering an apology and walked away from view, leaving me with just the man in the navy blue suit. He had his attention on screen and I got a better view of his face. Black hair, and deep dark eyes that stared back at me. “Who would’ve thought that you would be a ginger?” he asked folding his hands across his chest. “Who would’ve thought that you would be unprofessional?” “You called in five minutes after the agreed time, I am not the unprofessional one Anastasia.” “Yet you had company in your office, talking about a woman.” I retorted not taking things lightly. “Fair point, but that aside can we begin now.” Just as I was about to reply the door opened and an angry Daniel walked in. “You’re not answering your phone.” He started ignoring the fact that I was shaking my head at him. “That's because it on silent, I'm in a-” “Oh, what? Now you want to get mad because of something so silly.” He shut me out. “She is my mother for God’s sake, you should learn to put up with her, and what the hell is wrong with you? Walking out when you get a call, you don’t think answering my mother is a much more important issue.” he blabbered and I closed my eyes as I counted my breaths. This is not how I intended this morning to go, my eyes moved towards the screen briefly but the man there was staring at me. “I know I didn’t tell you about my mother asking that you stay home while I run my company-” “Your company?” I asked and for the first time, he stopped talking and paid attention. “You get what I mean, I am your husband and-” he was raising his voice now. “I have to take care of you!” “There, you said it, TAKE CARE OF ME, not take over care of our company. That was not the agreement-” “Anastasia-” “You know what? You’ve picked the wrong time to come here.” I turned back to my laptop screen and with a small smile I said. “I’m sorry you had to hear that.” Daniel's gaze on my face was strong and judgemental. “Don’t worry, I muted it. It’s only respectful that I didn’t listen.” “Can we continue?” “I don’t think so, you are clearly upset and I won’t discuss with you like this. I’ll reschedule a meeting with my assistant. Thank you for your time.”
