CHAPTER EIGHTEEN BRITA PULLED THE NAVY blue Birch Lakes Police SUV down Piers Randolph’s driveway, noting that her partner’s car was already there. Bud Hinks met them as they climbed out of the unmarked police vehicle, his expression grim. “Where are the local cops?” she asked as he approached. “They got a call about something strange floating in East Birch Lake and took off.” Brita nodded. “Have you spoken to Randolph?” Bud shook his head. “He’s not here. But there’s something you need to see.” He pointed toward the path leading around the side of the big house. Brick joined Brita as Bud walked away. She glanced in his direction. “Bud says Piers isn’t here. Maybe you should wait in the car.” Percy came up on Brick’s other side, his Glock drawn. The older Honeybun blew a raspberry.
