THEY’D HUNG HER FROM her wrists by a rope tied around the crossbar of a two post vehicle lift. Her arms and shoulders screamed as she fought to keep her toes touching the ground. Their captors were in the other room, arguing. From the little she could hear, Emma thought they were fighting about something stupid like lunch. She didn’t waste the unobserved moments. Between worried glances in Clovis’s direction, she struggled against the ropes tying her to the overhead lift. Her toes stretched toward the ground, barely keeping her weight off her wrists.
