Third Person POV
The wedding wasn’t an awfully large affair as compared to normal noble weddings. There were usually ceremonies and balls but this couple decided they preferred a small ceremony and a wedding dinner. Miriam was the only nervous one that day as both of them looked completely fine. As for Kron and Reid, they were full of surprise.
“I never imagined she would be so beautiful dressed up,” Kron whispered.
“No, I refuse to believe she is the one over there. If she’s the one, then my life is a lie! I am clearly more beautiful than she is but why don’t I have someone to love yet?!”
“Maybe it’s because you talk like that?”
“Oh please, like you’re one to talk.”
“How dare you speak to your liege that way?!”
“You find my audacity charming.”
Kron rolled his eyes and they managed to finish watching the rest of the ceremony in silence. Like most wedding ceremonies, it took place in the late evening when the sunset was visible and when the moon came out, it was time for the wedding dinner.
Kron and Reid decided to approach the newly wedded groom to congratulate him.
“Congratulations on your marriage,” Kron said, tipping a glass.
“Thank you, your highness. It’s an honor to have you here,” the groom replied, clicking his class with Kron’s.
“Tell me, how does it feel to be wedded?” Reid asked with brimming curiosity.”
“Let’s just say I finally feel complete. My happiness knows no bounds.”
“Those are deep words. Do you love her that much?”
“More than words can express. She is… the perfect person for me.”
Needless to say Kron and Reid were shocked. In their minds, it was a political marriage to finalize the alliance between the Horps Duchy and the House of Tiller. The way the groom spoke, it was almost like he was love struck. He sounded mad.
“Ahem! I wish you good luck in your marriage,” Kron said.
“Thank you, your highness.”
In both their minds, they declared the marriage would not last. This their love was ultimately a farce or it was just infatuation. But the man wouldn’t be able to take a concubine so he might resort to taking a courtesan. It was doomed to fail.
“I look forward to seeing our crown princess and witnessing your own wedding too.”
Kron choked on his glass of wine, coughing violently. Reid immediately came to his aid, patting his back so it would go down well.
“Your highness, are you alright?”
“... I’m fine. That just went down the wrong pipe.”
“Here, let me help you.”
His hands moved like magic and in mere seconds, Kron found his airway cleared. The two gave him blatant looks of disbelief.
“What sorcery was that?”
“It wasn’t sorcery. It was a simple mix of massage and bone setting. I happen to be a doctor, you see.”
“A doctor…”
Kron couldn’t believe it. How could he, when it felt like if River had made any more movements, he would’ve shattered his heart? His hands were so quick and smooth, he felt like an assassin!
“Lady Geraldine must be lucky to have you as her husband.”
“I hope she feels the same way. It’s hard to tell what her emotions are.”
“Well, women are typically like that. Now that you’re married, you’ll have more than enough time to win her over,” Reid said with a thumbs up.
“I’ll believe in your words then.” River smiled.
They spent their time immersed in small talk till they heard a loud shout from across the dining table.
“River! I’ve been looking for you!” Geraldine exclaimed, wobbling to her new husband.
“Looking for me… but I’ve been right here. Geraldine, are you drunk?”
“What? No! I only had like 1, maybe 2 or 3 glasses.”
“Oh heavens… let’s get you a glass of water. See you later gentlemen.”
The two watched as they hobbled out of the dinning hall. They wondered if they would come back or if it was the end of the wedding dinner.
“They look quite good together, don’t they?”
“... Lady Mirabel.”
She popped up out of nowhere behind them but they were unwilling to admit that she scared them like that.
“They do look good together… I think.”
“I think so too. With the way they were always at each other’s throat, I never imagined they would suggest marriage to my sister. She was pleasantly surprised. I had a lot of fun planning this. Did you enjoy yourselves?”
“... It was alright.”
“That makes me happy,” Mirabel said, giggling into her fan.
“So, your highness, when would you be returning to the battlefront?”
“In a few days. I still want to spar with the bride one last time.”
“I thought you already gave up.”
“... Did it look like that?”
“Well, we hoped you would. She was always upset when the idea was brought up. Even my sister is refusing to speak with you because you did something like that.”
“But she agreed to the first spar.”
“You should’ve refused regardless. My sister isn’t the type to get angry but you’ve gone a bit too far, your highness.”
“... I would go apologize then. But I truly need to spar with her one last time.”
“Then, I’ll offer a proposition. Why don’t you spar with my sister instead?”
The time Miriam saved him in the forest flashed by his head and an unintentional shiver went down his back.
“I’m sure she doesn’t have the time…”
“No, she’ll accept it as long as you don’t bother Geraldine. What do you say, your highness?”
Kron couldn’t put his hand on it but he knew saying yes could lead to a very traumatizing experience.
