ELAYNE
With the vast resources of the prince’s aides, it took just a week to put everything together. I only helped with the accounts while Tyler handled the meetings and technicalities. Lion helped with the labor part and Susanne was always somewhere supervising.
Some of the resources of the church were expended too, including their labor force so I came face to face with the captain who refused my application. I gave him a gentle smile when he came to say hello to meet Lion since they were a part of the labor force.
It had been an awfully boring and stressful time so I decided to mess with him.
“This is the captain of the cathedral guards.”
“Oh, we’ve been introduced. Hope you’re having a nice day, captain?”
“... It’s a lovely day.”
I knew he didn’t believe when I gave him the recommendation letter from Lion. well, they do say seeing is believing.
“This is the man that denied my application to the knightage.”
“Oh, really? I thought those with recommendations didn’t need to apply. Has the church become dishonest, Captain?”
“No! It was because we needed more capable people and I decided to test his strength.”
“How did you find it?”
“It was certainly befitting of his position as the aide of the prince.”
“So, why didn’t he get in?”
“He threatened the security of the cathedral.”
“Do you hear yourself, captain? A man who has a high position as an aide of the prince lowers himself to be a knight of the church and you reject him on such worthless claims?”
“… It’s not like that!”
“Clearly you have no respect for his highness. Since you have rejected one of our own, we would reject you too. You can return to the cathedral.”
“Sir Lion, please, this was an oversight…”
“His highness was kind enough to pardon the church and give you all a second chance but you reject his favorite aide. You rejected the favor of his highness. Perhaps this time, we would make sure the doors of the church are shut permanently.”
“No, Sir Lion, please! This is my fault! Please forgive me!”
“Please take this man away before he makes a bigger spectacle of himself.”
The captain of the guards was dragged away by the royal guards that accompanied them from Salem while being followed shamefully by the rest of the cathedral guards.
“Wow, Lion, I didn’t know you had it in you.”
“My lady, you have been through a lot just because of Zerramond. We honestly don’t deserve you. Anyone who chooses to disrespect you would be treated like the animal they are.”
“That’s high praise. All I did was take advantage of your kindness.”
“If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have taken the threat of the church seriously. I haven’t seen Prince Kalvin so normal in years.”
“He’s not normal to me.”
“You’re doing such a great job, my lady.”
“... Of course you’re not listening.”
Tyler spotted us and jogged up to us.
“I saw them drag the church’s guards out. What happened?”
“They delivered the perfect excuse to implicate the church.”
“Which was?”
“They rejected the help and favor of his highness. The captain of the guard didn’t let the lady into the knightage despite having a recommendation from me. Now that they’re gone, we don’t have to deal with them or the input of the church.”
“You know sometimes Lion, you’re so smart that you scare me.”
“You’re the smart ones. I just like drama.”
“I know you do. You’re the one who blabbed to everyone that I was sleeping with Kalvin before we even did the deed.”
“Me? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You don’t know how much I suffered listening to the head maid’s two-hour lecture on good bedroom manners and having children.”
“Makes sense, she’s the best for these kinds of things.”
“Shut up Tyler. Your input is not needed here.”
“You’ve been doing it for so long, when will you pop little princelings and princesses out?” Lion bugged
“That’s hardly any of your business, you creeps.”
“... Knowing his highness, I’m sure he would want girls instead. He’s very possessive.”
“Can we stop talking about this? This isn’t any of your business.”
“My lady, now is the right time to have children. If you have a child with the prince, regardless of their gender, you would be accepted wholeheartedly into the palace.”
“Please shut up.”
“What is this about children?”
“L-L-Lady Susanne!”
We didn’t notice but she had snuck into our midst. They jumped aside and Tyler wanted to run away but she caught him in time.
“You three are supposed to be working yet I’m hearing you discuss your liege. Who’s having children for Kalvin? Spit it out.”
“No one, my lady. They were just jesting around,” I replied.
“When you’re supposed to be working?”
“They just wanted a little break. We’ll be back on track soon.”
She let Tyler go and walked closer to me with a serious expression on her face. What she did next took us all by surprise. She moved into my personal space and placed her hands on my chest, moving it around.
“L-L-LADY SUSANNE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THAT’S s****l HARASSMENT!” Lion yelled, moving closer. Susanne’s glare stopped him in place. Everyone stopped to watch as she groped my chest. I really wished the ground would open up and swallow me.
“You’re a woman,” she said in a low voice. I didn’t reply, covering my face.
Of all the ways she could’ve found out… was there no sane person in the Royal family of Zerramond.
“What are you all looking at?! Get back to your work.”
They immediately disbanded and an isolated space was created around us. She sent Lion and Tyler a glare and they both left, giving me looks of pity.
“I have a very important question that I need you to answer honestly.”
“... Please go ahead.”
“You’re princess Ariana, aren’t you?”
“... Yes, yes I am.”
