Third Person's POV
“WHY IS HE SO LOUD?! W-W-WAIT! WHY ARE YOU GIVING HIM TO ME?! OI! AMAYA!”
In the early hours of the morning, the Horps Estate was wrought with a new kind of problem; The displeasure of the Prince.
He was fine the first few days after Elayne left but every morning, he threw a fit and cried till he gave himself and everyone else a headache before settling for breakfast.
Amaya was usually the one who bore the brunt of it but she too was tired so she chucked the child to the first person she saw and bolted the door.
Geraldine held the child like a hot potato, running to her lady. As she chances upon Miriam’s door, Mirabel was already there, taking tea.
{What’s the problem?}
“I DON’T KNOW! HE WON’T STOP CRYING!”
{Stop shouting. Bring him here.}
“Okay.”
Geraldine passed the still crying child to Miriam. She received the child while standing and gently rocked him, patting his back. He struggled a lot but Miriam’s strength was enough to keep him in place. Mirabel and Geraldine watched in awe.
“You’re so good at this, sister.”
Miriam nodded, her hands too occupied to answer.
“Of course! My lady can do anything!”
Miriam’s eyes widened.
“My sister is very talented and is surrounded by good people.”
Miriam frantically shook her head.
“Don’t be so modest sister. Look how well you’re handling him. I’m sure you would make a fine mother.”
Miriam shook her head even harder.
“Of course my lady would... wait, what?”
“You don’t think so? Look at how beautiful and capable she is! Men in the capital would be honored to marry my sister!”
“Well... that’s...”
Miriam send Geraldine a look that was a cry for help.
“Since my sister cannot look for one herself, we should help her! She deserves happiness!”
“Ah... I don’t think... Perhaps my lady wants you to find happiness first.”
“... I know that. I also know I am a burden on my sister. Listen Geraldine, I was just telling my sister before you came that I’m... recovering my memory.”
Geraldine immediately raised her guard.
“Just how much do you remember?”
“You don’t have to look so scary. I remember just a bit. It was enough to know I’m undeserving for the kindness she’s showing me.”
“You know her situation. Why would you want her to get married? Do you want to hold a claim to the duchy?”
“I’m thinking no such thing. I have already forfeited my right to the duchy.”
“No matter how convenient that sounds, you cannot just do that.”
“You’re right, I can’t. However, I want my sister to be happy. I would also support her in anything she does, even if it involves planning a revolt with Princess Ariana.”
“... So you also know about that”
“Even if she looks different, she’s the same person I know. I must admit, seeing her brought back some memories.”
Geraldine and Miriam looked at each other. The way she was talking, it looked like she knew who Elayne was from the beginning and they didn’t suspect anything. It was frightening.
Miriam adjusted the child so she could sign.
{You don’t have to feel so guilty. Things that happened in the past should stay in the past.}
Miriam was trying to be kind. However, the things that happened in the past, most of which were engineered by Mirabel, were things that could not easily be forgiven. Especially if Mirabel was the reason Miriam couldn’t talk in the first place.
“I will drop the matter. I can take care of the child if you need space to work.”
“Why should we trust you with his highness?” Geraldine said, covering Miriam with her body. She crossed her arms and raised a brow. Miriam shook her head and walked aside her, handing the prince over to her.
“My lady!”
{She’s my sister. I trust her. You should too.}
Geraldine grumbled even after Mirabel left.
“You shouldn’t trust her so casually my lady, even if she’s your sister.”
{You too have a sibling. Surely you understand how she feels.}
Geraldine frowned at the mention of the existence of her sibling.
“My lady we are cursed with horrible siblings.”
Miriam hit her head with a fan.
{Stop saying such things. Don’t you have to return home soon?}
“My lady… I was hoping you wouldn’t bring that up.”
{You have to return. I can’t reply one more letter from your father.}
“But he wants me to get married! I don’t want to!”
{Are you a child? It’s your responsibility as a noble lady to birth children to further your heritage.}
“My brother can do that.”
{You’re the heir. Isn’t this what is stopping you from being general?}
“I don’t want to be general anyway,” She grumbled. She sidestepped to avoid being hit on the head again.
{I’ll give you till the end of today to pack your hings and return home. Just spend a week there and you can return. I’ll write you a letter.}
“Fine…”
Geraldine finally left to let Miriam focus on her work. As usual, she went to find Amaya to grumble. The doctor opened her door once the coast was clear of children.
“Well, you could just say excuse me if you wanted to enter.”
Geraldine burst in when Amaya opened the door and walked in like she owned the place. She ignored Amaya’s complaint and plopped on the bed.
“What is it this time?” Amaya sighed.
“Lady Miriam wants me to go home and get married!”
“Let me guess, you don’t want to?”
“Of course not. If I’m married, who would protect the lady?”
“I mean, let’s pretend I’m invisble.”
“You’re going to have to get married too”
“No, I really don’t. Neither do you.”
“What… what do you mean?”
“Remember what happened at the ball?”
“You don’t mean…”
“Yes. Only this time, you get married to me. What do you think, Geraldine?”
