Chapter 87

Third Person's POV “I never expected you’d come all the way to see me. I’m honored, King Johannes.” “I came here to see the progress of the war. I had heard about the war elephants and came to see if you need any help.” “No, we are fine so far. We’ve been able to drive them back.” “Oh? That’s wonderful news.” The two smiled so amicably at one another, one would never be able to tell it was fake. However, the atmosphere between them was as hostile as that of enemies on the battlefield. “I have important information to share.” “Then follow me.” Mival led the other king into his most secured room. They sat around a round table on opposite sides. “So, King Johannes, is there a problem?” “The King of Zerramond cracked down on the church.” “What? How?” “Some assassins attacked the church. The pope took this to the royal court, hoping they would turn the whole kingdom against the church but Prince Kalvin, that cunning bastard managed to turn the whole trial around. The Pope has been arrested for treason and the Saintess is being held in Rhonda by the same prince. It won’t be long until they find out about our plans. What are we going to do?” Mival and Johannes’s partnership rested mainly on their ambitions to conquer the whole continent. They decided to put away their differences and work together till they had the other kingdoms in their hands. Now that even one part of their plan had been threatened, their partnership came into question. “We have to go on with the plan.” “Seriously?” “Yes. We planned for this eventuality. I thought it would last long enough till we could move the troops into Zerramond and take over but it seems like they were fiercer than we thought. We move on to the next plan.” “... I’ll get started on that.” “I would wish you the best of luck.” “This better work.” They went over the plan one more time and King Johannes left. After he did, the military officials watched the king go into another thunderous rage in which someone thankfully didn’t lose their head. On the outskirts of the capital, a particular woman who had been set aside got an unexpected visitor. “To what do I owe this meeting, your majesty?” “Please, I have long lost that title. You can address me by my name now.” “Okay, Moriah, what do you want?” Queen Moriah laughed, taking a seat. Andrella had the most displeased expression on her face and no one could blame her for it. “I am really sorry Andrella.” “Sorry can’t cut it. I thought I was going to lose my life this time.” “We should be thankful he let this go and changed his mind.” “Let this go?! He spent the entire night treating me like an animal! I think his intentions were to break my legs.” “... I truly am sorry. I didn’t wish for this to happen. I hoped we would both get our revenge.” “Whatever. What are you doing out of the castle?” “Now that the cat’s away, the mouse would come out to play. I’ve finally decided to leave since I have no ties there.” “Isn’t that splendid?” “I am thankful you haven’t lost your sarcasm.” “Your niece is getting married. Isn’t that why you came out?” “I still cannot show my face to them just yet. I have decided to take a much dangerous path, one that would lead me to destruction. I can not involve them in this.” “No matter how hard you try, they still would be.” “I know but can I not hope for it to take a longer time?” “Do whatever you want and leave me out of it. I thought that I would finally live a life free from Mival. It was a stupid idea to get revenge and I’m never doing it again.” “I understand. I wouldn’t bother you anymore. I just came to tell you I am leaving.” “... Where are you going?” “I am going to bunker down in Zerramond for a few months to regain my strength. I pray the next time we see, we wouldn’t be enemies.” “I highly doubt that,” Andrella mumbled. Queen Moriah rose and took her leave. The woman wasn’t dreadfully old but Mival had drained someone like her of her radiance. He did that to all the women in his life. But Andrella’s train of visitors didn’t stop there. That same day, she got to see the one person she had been wishing to see for ages. “Master, a strange person seeks you outside.” “Has my house now turned into a consortium for strange people?” she grumbled while going outside. When she did get outside, her fan dropped and her mouth widened in shock. “Hello Andrella.” “Greta…” “I know it’s awfully rude of me but I just had to come se-” Andrella ran and jumped on the other woman. She was much bigger than she was so she ended up inches above the ground. But Andrella didn’t care for her image or reputation at that moment. All that mattered was the person in front of her eyes. “I thought… you’d never come back. I don’t care why you’re here. I’m just happy you’re here.” “I am happy to see you too. I have lived with guilt for so many years that I haven’t been able to come see you but my heart couldn’t take it anymore.” “Oh, Greta…” The two stayed like that for the longest time, basking in each other’s company. Andrella had never been so happy in all her life. “Andrella?” “Yes, Greta?” “I have something very important to tell you.” “What is it?” Since they were still embracing each other, Greta leaned in and whispered it in her ears. With every word she said, Andrella’s face drained of all color. “No, it can’t be…” Andrella’s voice shook, tearing herself off Greta. The other’s eyes were filled with guilt. “I’m sorry Andrella.” “Greta, please tell me you did not! Tell me you did not let him use you like that!” “I had no choice Andrella.” “After all these years, you are still risking your life for that b***h! Why do you care so much about them? Why do you let them ruin your life? Why can’ you just forget about them and let us be happy together?! Why, Greta, why?!” In all her life, Andrella had never felt as betrayed as she felt right then.
