Maria POV
Sun shone through the thick clouds as I made my way through the crowded pavements of my apartment. The city was large but the population continued to overgrow. The morning scent of coffee and fresh, warm cakes made it's way to my nostrils and I took in a deep breath. It smelled delicious and alluring but I seemed to have no time on my hands to get something for myself so I stepped ahead and walked into the building. The small watch strapped around my hand ticked. I glanced at the time — perfect.
Today is my interview at a school which Ciara introduced to me, hopefully I will get a good and well paid job today even though I will have to work as a busar or a secretary. Walking into the school building I met a lady standing at the first of a desk guess she is the secretary.
"I'm Maria Benard and I'm here for the interview with Mr. Windson for the position of a teacher," I said to the lady standing there, or the secretary. She nodded her head and picked up the phone resting beside her. A few words uttered out of her mouth and then she closed the call.
"Mr. Windson is in his office. It's on the left, and the first door you see there" she responded with a cranky smile on her face. I nodded my head and stepped inside the school building, I didn't see Ciara around or her Friend Rebecca I guess they are in class.
The building wasn't large but I'm wasn't complaining. I was thankful for landing on a good interview after getting fired from my previous job. I was fired due to some mishap that was created between me and my boss's wife. She thought I was having an affair with her husband and she asked him to lick me out.
As I stopped at the front of the office, I noticed something, a thick scent of a wolf — it reminded me of the wolves I came across last night. Flashes appeared in front of me as I moved around the small place. There couldn't be a wolf here, like seriously this is a school and a wolf might be dangerous for the loves of the kids. This area of the city belonged to humans—it wasn't his territory.
"Ms. Maria, I was expecting you," A man's voice made its way to my ears. I turned around and faced a handsome man with bold features. A wolf. My natural instincts screamed to run out of this place at once but I required this job. It was my only last hope for survival. My bills were due and I needed to land on a job immediately.
Get a hold, Maria. I reminded myself before pushing my hand towards him.
"Mr. Windson, it's nice to meet you finally," I said with a sharp smile.
"Oh, please, call me Jax." He shook my hand with great pressure. A strange feeling trickled down my spin and I shuddered. There was a strong aura surrounded around this man. He clearly wasn't the Alpha I was running away from.
"Come in, please. I was quite impressed by your resume, you have got quite a bundle of skills!" Mr. Windson exclaimed as he walked inside the office. The warmth of his hand on mine still lingered after he parted it away. It didn't feel the usual—maybe it was because I had never touched another wolf.
He sat on his leather chair and smiled at me warmly.
"So, tell me a little more about yourself?" My CV and resume were placed in front of him yet he wanted to know more about me.
"There is nothing much, everything is stated in my resume and CV." I snapped back. My confidence disappeared as soon as I came into terms that he was a werewolf. Just last night, the man sitting in front of me was chasing me down with his brothers. The thought of it made me quiver.
"Where do you come from, Ms. Maria?"
Of course. My resume only stated jobs I had done over the past six years. There was no information about me before that. It was six years ago when I moved Minnesota to start a new life as a lone-wolf. I despised my pack, my parents and my alpha — they were absolutely deeming and disgusting in every sort of way.
"I used to live with my parents a few years ago,"
"And where was that?" His smoothly trimmed eyebrow raised at me with suspicion.
"Just nearby…….it not far from Minnesota" I said trying not to be suspected
"Alright. It's okay if you don't want to give details but I may inform you that we are required to do a background check before employing anyone in the company. If you're comfortable with that, we can continue and I can give you the offer letter." He explained.
"Of course, I don't have any problem!" My background was clear as the ocean. Not once I had landed in prison.
Mr. Windson presented me with the offer letter stating the terms for this job.
It was the position of a teacher with quite an impressive pay, at least that better than been a janitor or an escort. After going through the details, I signed the letter and handed it back to him. It stated that I had to start from tomorrow but Mr. Windson seemed to have a different date.
"Okay, see you then," Mr windson said and I left his office hoping to see Ciara outside the school since it was break hour at least we can grab something to eat or better still talak about my experience today.
Tonight was the blood moon and male wolves were known to hunt down females and claim them as their mates. I preferred staying indoors for the rest of the weekend. I for one didn't like this day because it brings bad memories and I hope I don't get a mate or all I do is stay in the house all day.
I walked out of the building then and there. I was still uncomfortable with the idea of working with a werewolf — a specific one who had tried to hunt me a couple of times but it was just for a few months. As soon as my rent and bills were covered, I would leave and look for something else.
Mr. Windson wasn't the problem here, it was his Alpha that I was running away from — Lycan — the vicious man with stupendous powers. The Alpha never came out for hunting me down, he only sent his men, his warriors. They all wanted my head as they found me dangerous. It was illegal to rest on another territory and it made sense that the Alpha wanted me dead.
I was still thinking when someone touched my shoulder from behind and when I looked back, it was Ciara and Rebecca and with them was an handsome guy who is also a wolf since I could smell that.
“Hey Maria, thank God you were able to make it for the interview and how was it hope you got hired" Ciara asked with so much excitement in her voice
I told her about Mr windson, his kind hospitality but never told her that he was a wolf and not even the one after my life …..since Rebecca and that guy with them was a wolf, I didn't want to take the risk.
“ohhhh Maria, that means you will be joining us tomorrow, and by the way meet my cousin Benson, hope you guys can blend better" Rebecca said introducing me to Benson who was the guys with them.
Ciara and Rebecca left us and Benson lead the way to the school cafeteria where we talked about ourselves and how we are expecting life to be for us.
Benson or any other wolves can scent me I had a woman make a powerful concoction for me when I went for a vacation in China…and ever since then no one has been able to really know how I look in my Human form since they can't scent me.
Benson and I ended our conversation and Ciara followed me home.
