Chapter 15

Benson's POV I saw faces of many wolves laying just below the ice I stood on; there faces masks of rage. They appeared to be under water, just floating and their fur standing on hend in the icy water. The icr cracked, "Benson!" A voice barked. "No" I whispered; my breating became more heavily labored, my eyes darting back and forth from on c***k in the ice to each new c***k forming. "No!" I yelped. There was nothing to push off of, but the wolves lept out the water. I jumped up, fur bristling. I sighed. "Are you okay" the white fured wolf asked, her beautifull, carring blue eyes full of curiosity; Lucy. "How are the pups?" I asked. "Its okay, it was only a dream" I told her. She brushed her fur against mine and licked my muzzle. "Alert and curious about the new world" She laughed. "We should take them out of the nursery" I told her. I had to talk her into it, but she agreed finally. We brought the weeks old pups out of the Nursery and headed downhill. They bounced around and tumbled through the snow. Benita's body was tense and rigid with nervousness. I suppose It was only nature for her to be nervouse for her first liter of pups. I rolled around in the snow, scratching my back and rolled over. The pups were imitating me rolling in snow. I felt giddy and excited with joy as I watched the smal pups run, roll, and play. Beside me Benita and Lucy growled savegly and barked a bark of warning. I'd been distracted by the pups playfullness, too distracted to notice the foul scent in the air. Sure enough a foul scent lingered in the frosty air; although, their was a sour scent of disease and sickness, but I ignored it. It was probably just the rogue wolves. I snarled at the rogues pacing along the edge of the icy river on the other side. Rather than fleeing they snarled challengingly. I began debating whether or not to run over and attack. "Benson no, don't it wouldn't end well. Think of the pack and pups" Lucy reminded me. My fur lay flat again and I forced myself to calm down. The rogue wolf continued to pace along the riverbank; there eyes on me and the pups. I could feel and almost smell the bloodlust in the air. "Lets go Benita and Lucy" I said, my voice thick with authority. The time by the river was short, but neither of us felt safe, and even the pups began to notice and cowered out of the rogues sight. We found ourselves backing away towards the camp. On the way back I warned Alex to be warry as she was heading towards the river to drink water. 'That dream I had earlier, the ice cracking and those wolves attacking. What was going to happen when the Ice River cracked?' I wondered. Lucy returned to the den with the pups to allow Jason's Mate and Benita a chance to leave the nursery for a while; meanwhile, I slipped into Louisa nursery to ask her a few questions. 'She's a great medicine wolf with a stronger connection to the Ice Lunar's that I. Perhaps she would know the correct meaning of my dream, or could ask the Ice Lunars for help' I thought. Though I began to wonder if the Ice Lunars, our wolf ancestors were watching over us still. I sighed, not even knowing the answer to that. Louisa looked up from the herbs she was sorting through. We began discussing topics about the rogues. Both of us were apparently having the same dreams about the cracking ice and attacking wolves. "I can't say what the dream means, but I do believe that there'll be a time when the dream becomes realitiy, and we must be ready then" Louis told me. As I left her den I noticed a slightly, just slightly sour scent in the air. It wasn't the foul scent of rougues, but more like the scent of sickness and disease. 'It's probably best to ignore it, probably just the scent of rogues from a distance' I thought. Instead I decided to return to the nursery. As always it smelled milky, and was very warm inside. Jason's mate Eve who still hadn't had her pups lay on her side asleeep, while Benita and Lucy talked quietly as to not wake the other pups. Lucy noticed me, her eyes full of wonder and worry. "Where's Benson?" she whimpered. I frowned, my eyes flickering to where she usualy lay in the room. That spot was empty. I felt my fur rise; standing on end. "I don't know, I'll go look for her" I told them. Before leaving the nursery I looked over the nursery. The pups were huddled up between Lucy and Benita. They were one less worry for now, but now I had to go find my mate, Maria hoping that I will see her someday. 'Calm down Benson, she probably went to go drink some water, or go see Alex and Charissa' I thought. I caught a wisp of Alex's scent and headed towards her. Charissa scent reached me as well, she was talking to Alex. "Alex, Charissa. Have you seen Lucy?" I barked to them. They shook their heads, and Charissa trotted towards me, "How's Luke, are his legs still causing him trouble?" she whimpered. I stiffled a laugh of amusment, "No Charissa, he's just fine. You should go see him, he'd appriciate that" I told her. Charissa dashed away, following Luke's scent, and Alex trailed along. I turned away from them, still trying to locate Lucy's scent when a sour scent reached my nose. It wasn't foul like rogues, but sour like sickness and disease. I felt curious, but to go looking for a sick wolf seemed like a bad idea. I decided not to follow the scent and I turned in another direction. "Go this way" an unrecognizable voice whispered. I whirled around snarling. "This way- this way! This way!" multiple voices whispered at differnt tiems. The voices grew louder, and I couldn't get them out of my ears. "Be quiet" snapped another voice, this voice was recognizable. I lifted my head up, looking at the starry sky. The stars themselves were moving, changing their patterns right before my very eyes. Finaly they stopped and I found myself looking at a constelation of a wolf. "Go this way Benson" whispered the recognizable voice, it was Luna. Her starry tail pointed east. I nodded my head in gratitude and watched her starry constelation disappear. I went in the direction she ordered me to go in; although, the direction was sending me towards the sour scent. As I came closer there was a distinctive sweet scent intertwined with the sour scent that made me begin to run. I finally reached a sick wolf lying near a very small elk carcass. A bear hovered over the wolf and carcass, and it looked angry. The bear reared up on its hind legs, claws gleaming. 'This bear must have woken from hibernation' I realized the danger of the situation. In the wolf's defense I attacked the bear. Being still sleepy, though it was angry, it fled once I dug my sharp teeth into its back leg leaving a trail of blood behind it. I turned to the wolf with splotches of white and redish fur. Forgetting about scent I began to wonder why this wolf was on my territory until a sweet, distinctive scent reached my nose. It wasn't splotches of red fur, it was blood. To be more specific, it was my mates blood staining the snow. I crept through the bushes into the wide, rocky clearing. Tall, snowy mountains towered high into the sky. I fell over as something knocked me over. "Who are you and state your reason for being here. Speak know or forever hold still" a large wolf growled. "I am Blake, exiled wolf from Redwalkers pack. I am here to make an alliance" I whimpered. The wolf backed away. "Not bargain, make an alliance. Lucy is now alpha female of my pack. "You dare come try an bargain with me" the wolf growled. "I see, go on" the wolf muttered. "They've agreed to ally with your pack to go to war against the wolves" I said smirking. "Blake what are you doing here? I can handle this" said the other male wolf. "Is that so" said another wolf, a she wolf with black fur. "What will my pack earn in return?" asked Jason's mate, Eve. "I heard the conversation and I was curious" Eve growled low. "The wolves current territory right where the elk herd rests. There's a river there that you could fish from, and a large patch of herbs" I offered. "Exelent, you may bring your pack to the territory. When winter and fall comes your temporary territory will be ready for you" I said. Eve howled loudly gathering all the other rogues in his pack. I raced on towards the summer territory. The first day we'll cut through Packs territory, secretly of course. By the time we reach the territory my second plan will have already been finished. "Sounds like a deal" Jason and his mate Eve agreed together. Cool air from the lake was blowing in making it colder than normal. I suppose it was because it was getting ready to rain. I was beginning to worry about the pups. According to Louisa she wasn't even half way through her nursery. The sky darkened and lightning flashed loudly. I starred up at the sky watching the clouds darken even more. For a second I thought I saw something familiar. Two dark eyes glaring at me from the clouds. The cloud seem to take on the form of a wolf. The cloudy wolf looked like it was snarling, it's mouth open and flashing with lightning. I jumped slightly startled. I don't believe in omens usualy, but this had to be some sort of message. I heard something crackle loudly, a tree a few miles away had caught flame. The tree I sat by swayed violetly in the wind. "Benson!" I heard someone yell. I could barely hear the voice for it was very windy and thunder boomed loudly. "I don't know!" I responded. Lightning flashed again and hit the ground near us making the ground shake. "Do you think we should take shelter?!" Luke asked. "Yes!" I yelped. Fightning against the wind everyone hurried into the other nursery dug into the side of the mountain. It was dark, but my night-vision kicked in so I could see just fine. "You okay?" I asked Lucy. This Nursery was different than the earthy, herb smelling nursery of the medicine wolf nursery. Because the females that had pups stayed in here many seasons ago it gave the nursery a sweet milky scent. I layed down beside Lucy, her eyes closed meaning she was sleeping. I licked her paw smoothing out her fur. It was still short and patchy, but it was growing out. My ears twitched, there was a storm up ahead. "We face all sorts of weather. We are not stopping" Alex told me. We continued running towards the mountains and stormy weather. I'd never been through the pathway through the mountains her. It was a long tunnel through the rocky mountain. The only light was here and on the end which could barely be seen. We raced through, and I was glad the rain wasn't hitting my back. I took in a big gulp of air when we left the tunnel, it reeked of the wolves. Rain pelted my back, and some hail; it felt like needles all over! I directed the rogues to follow quickly. "There you are" my mate said happily. His red fur soaking wet. He stood as tall as Alex. "Welcome friends" Jason and his Mate . greeted while bowing their heads in respect. "Until we have our temporary territory and then the Territory I submit. Only now, later it will be different" Alex said bowing his head. "Thank you. Come now, we have plenty of caribou to share" Jason said. Near a tree lay three caribou carcasses. The rogue wolves greedily dug into one until their bellies were full. "You took the others out?" I asked. "Chocolate and Lightning are no more. My older brother though didn't agree. I defeated both my brothers, though I spared their lives" Jason growled the last part. I glanced over at the two wolves cowering a distance away. "Course I am" he growled low. Everything was set. We were ready to go to war! Benson is going to regret choosing that flea-bag, Lucy, over me. "Well done, your amazing" I told him, I cuddled up to him. ……. Hey lovesssssss …Lucy might be having some kind of trouble since Blake's mate Clara who was Benson's ex before Maria is now jealous of her .. …… Benson is slowly realizing that he might never see Maria again, so he is trying to fall in love with Lucy.
