Chapter 12

2002 Words
Benson's Pov Where've you been Benson? Hey where is Benita" Luke and Mark asked me. I grinned and looked back towards my study table. "She had to go see a doctor" I said looking confused. "What? Why didn't you tell me? I'm going to make sure she is okay" Mark said sprinting down to the stairs "Four pups, I don't know how they'll survive" I muttered. The average was one or atleast two, four was quite a few although it was possible that they could have had more than that number. Luke and Mark set out hunting for the new pups. While I brought back something for Lucy and the kids, before going to the office. While Benita was dragging a artic fox and hare for the pack, the hare for Venom. She growled a warning for Mark to stay away from her pups when she saw him. He whined softly to let her know he understood, and lay down the squirrel infront of her. ( Mark who is my p.a had his mate few months before my wedding to Lucy, but ever since they got mated he has never treated her with love instead he maltreat her and leave her to die to hunger even though she was pregnant with his pups. So now that she has given birth, she does want to see Mark or any of us. Am just trying my best to make sure everything is okay for the both of them and the pack). "Thank you" she whispered and licked his muzzle. Three of their pups where busy suckling and the other one being kept warm by Mucus, one of the guards in the house. Mark lay down just watching her and the pups. They were their first and I guess his heart was swelling with pride. The ones feeding lay in a pile, a few of them on top of the others. When a few of them fell asleep they were switched with the pups Mucus kept warm. Mark glance at Mucus with pleading eyes. He wanted to be the one keeping them warm and safe. They were their pups, too, after all. She sent me a look that said "she won't like it". Benita, busy resting to notice our silent conversation didn't notice when I switched places with Mucus and I was able to make Mark warm his own pups. He wrapped his body around the two of the small pups. They rolled on their backs sleeping. He just couldn't believe they were mine. 'i promise to protect you and your mother'' he silently vowed. Every now and they whined or whimpered. When He woke up the pups I'd curled around had moved towards their mother, that or Benita moved them towards her. He stretched, shook out my fur, and squeezed through the exit. 'Great now what should I do' I wondered. I sniffed the air for scents of prey, nothing. I trotted through the high snow towards the hills where the blueberries and strawberries grew. If I were lucky there'd be some berries growing which would attract prey. I waded through the icy water thinking about Mark's pups, I wish Maria could at least give birth to one or more for me I before her disappearance. My fur was drenched with cold water, but I still continued. Sure enough a very fat snow shoe hare stood digging through the snow, the sweet scent of blue and straw berries reached my nose. I crept forward undetected, the wind blowing through my fur. Suddenly the hare jumped away. I ran after it down hill, snapping my jaws viciously as my paws hit the icy ground. The scent of the border was so close. My teeth were inches away from its cotton like tail when I hit an icy patch. I tumbled down the hard cold ice until I landed with a thud. The hare had ran into rogue territory. I sighed and trotted back towards the den. My ears twitched at the sound of howling. Willing my paws to move faster towards the nursery, and force myself to swim through the frigid water. A fish-like, tree-like scent reached my nose. A thick, dense fur, very long bushy tail, ribs showing as a sign of malnutrition, and about four feet tall figure snarled and continued trying to enter the den Benita and the pups were in. Luke snarled viciously and continue trying to come between the snow leopard and the nursery. I crept up slowly, Luke noticed but not the leopard. I lunged, snarling, and the leopard whipped around snarling as well. I ducked to avoid its fangs and sank my own into the jugular. Thrashing around I could only hold on for so long, but Luke was quick to help and even Benita. Whipping it's long, bushy tail and continuing to thrash around it ran towards the Rogue Wolf border. "Well it's their problem now" Luke growled spitting out some of the leopards fur. "I'm going to go hunt, you take care of her" Luke said. "Nice job Luke" I said, he bowed his head in respect. "Are you okay?" I asked sniffing Benita side to make sure she hadn't been injured. "I'm fine" she growled softly in my ear. I nudged her side towards the nursery. Once again I left in search of food for her and the pups. Again I spotted the fat little hare hopping near the border. I took my chances and caught it. With no sign of the rogue wolves I raced back to Benita's nursery and shared the hare. If Benita didn't feed well, or if she died it could mean the end of her pups. Usualy half the pups of a litter don't make it, but I'm determined to keep them alive. When I woke up and headed outside of the nursery it was now dry and I was greeted by a sharp blast of cold air from the east. My body shook from the cold, obviously it was the beginning of leaf-fall. Leaf-fall, the time when the leaves fall, the flowers die, and the long journey home; although, it seemed almost as cold as winter. I shook my fur out and started walking towards the lake. I crouched down and looked for fish, but there were none. I reached out to touch the cold water and found a thin, paper-like sheet of ice covering the water. I gasped, it was way to soon for the lake to start freezing. I dashed back to camp and howled for the pack to have a meeting. "What's wrong Benson?" Lucy asked as everyone came out of the house. "What, but it's to soon!" Alex exclaimed. "The lakes starting to freeze" I said. "If's only leafe bare though" Charissa pointed out. "I know, I want to hurry back to the leaf bare territory. Louisa and Lucy collect all herbs you can find around here. Luke, Alex, Charissa, and Mark come with me to hunt for elk. After you collect the herbs meet up with us in the field" I said. Louisa and Lucy left to collect herbs while the rest of us dashed away towards the elk herd. Once at the field we stopped and let Luke go on to find a good elk to take out. Everything was going well. We all killed the elk, Louisa and Lucy joined us later to eat. After eating we ran out again to the leaf-bare territory. The scent marks were still strong when we got there, but there was something else. I hurried through the camp towards the Moonshire border. I stopped at the scent of rogues. What were rogues doing so close to the boder? I started snifing aroud at my scent mark and the rogues scent marking. "What ever, you stay away" the wolf warned me. He dashed away into the bushes. "What are you doing so close to my territory" I snarled back. "Hey! What are you doing so close to our territory?" a wolf snarled. "I know. Apparently a pack of rogue wolves have made there territory between ours and the other pack wolves territory" I said. Luke gasped. For the rogues to come so close was a bold move indeed. After strengthening the border marks Luke and I returned to camp to tell the pack the news. "Benson, we smell rogues near the boders" Luke told me. "What do you mean, do you think Blake has something to do with this?" I asked. "What? They dare come so close?!" Charissa snarled in rage. "They came here just after Blake was made a rogue" Louisa said. "I want everyone to be alert for any signs of the flea-bag and any rogues. Be alert, too Lucy, if yousee Blake be careful with ith him" I said. "Could be, she never was a pleasant wolf" Alex said. "Snow" Luke whispered. The snow was falling heavily on our backs. Because it was only leaf-fall our winter coats have only just started growing. "Remember your encounter with a them?" I reminded him. Luke growled at the memmory. Some wet touched my back. I looked up to see it snowing. My muzzle hung open in shock. "T-to the house" I stuttered. Everyone hurried into the house, Lucy and I into our room. Thankfully the dens were still built well. "What's going on? Could Blake really be causing trouble?" Sapphire asked, her body shaking as she lay down. "Could be. Lets not worry about him" I said licking her muzzle, she returned the gesture. I lay down beside her, my ears perked up as I listened to the howling wind. "sleep" I heard a voice whisper. MY eyelids felt heavier as the voice whispered "sleep" repeatedly. I finaly closed my eyes and slept. "I don't know I just fell asleep" I told her. Benson's POV (a nightmare) The darkness around us brightened and I found myself high above the ground. I could see my territory and all the other wolves territories. I saw the rogues territory in the snowy mountains. I watched them move closer to the packs territories. As they moved a cloud snowing followed them. They stopped between the three territories. From the center of their territory ice crept out, crackling as it did. "Luke what are you doing here?" asked Louisa. "What is that?" Louisa asked. I looked closer and there was a wolf beneath the ice, an odly familiar face. Soon the ice covered all the territories, and more wolves could be seen under the nice. The wolf I noticed first opened its muzzle and snarled loudly. Ice cracked and the packs territories shattered except for the rogue and moonshire wolves territory. Bits of ice flew up in my face, cold and sharp like splinters. The wolves were now above the ice. Blake, his mate, and the rogue wolves stood with her. Blake form suddenly changed into a monster. Long claws, fangs that lengthened pass his lips, and his body was bigger. I starred at his new form fearfully. he was some sort of monster wolf! "Benson are you okay? I think you were having a nightmare" Lucy said. She sounded worried. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked. I shook my head. I didn't want her to be scared or stressed since we just got married and taking of the pack as a Luna has not been easy for her, infact sometimes I regret telling her to marry me The early winter was surely because of Blake and the rogues. I heard paws shuffling down the tunnel and Louisa emerged from the hole. "I'm okay, yeah something like a nightmare" I told her. "Everyone allright?" asked Louisa. Lucy and I nodded. "The snow storm is started to fade. Everything will be fine in a little bit" I said. Louisa nodded and disappeared down the stairs to see the other wolves. I layed down, my head on my paws with Lucy beside me. I drifted back into a dreamless, visionless sleep.
