Chapter 8

I pulled up to the gates and rolled down my window. “Beta Victor” The guard greets and nods to his partner to open the large, iron gates. His mind reeling with what he must tell the Alpha and how he’ll react to it. Of course, he doesn’t want Tori to go there either, but apparently, this is her choice, and no one is going to change her mind. He can’t stop her but maybe there is a way he can keep an eye on her. The grinding of the gears stops pulling him out of his thoughts and he drives his truck through the gate towards the main packhouse parking area. It’s a dominating structure as it comes into view. An enormous five-story, forest green brick building with a smaller wing on either side, with tall ivory pillars lining the front. The landscape surrounding the house is lush and green and well-manicured. A large rose garden off to the left and a fountain with a large black wolf howling at a full moon in the center pathway. Off to the right is a gravel path that leads off to the forest or down to the training grounds. The parking area is just to the right of the main entrance. It being morning time, not many people were mulling about. Most were at school or at a job of some sort. Victor could see the teachers off in the distance playing with the pups on the playground at the daycare. Some were on swings; some were playing kickball and others were playing in the sandbox. He could hear their laughter and shrieks of excitement when they were caught after a game of chase. He remembered back when he was a pup and would run around the same grounds playing with his friends, and Tori. Since he was one of the fastest pups, he would carry Tori on his back as they ran around playing chase. A sadness washed over him at all the time he lost with her growing up. They could’ve been best friends or even mates by now with their own family. Shaking it off, he shut the door on his truck and headed for the front porch to go inside. Along the way, several pack members bowed and greeted him politely as he bowed back. He pulled out his phone and hit the speed dial for the Alpha. It rang, and rang, and rang. Finally, after four rings, it goes to voicemail. Hitting the end button, he sighed and put his phone away. Looking up at the massive house, he stepped away from the truck and marched across the lot to the main entrance. Once inside, he looked around and saw only a few couples in the dining area still enjoying their morning coffee and breakfast. Most of them were the elders of the pack, long since retired from their duties. Down to the left was the Alpha’s hallway. The high-ranking offices, and the private library along with the Alpha’s living quarters. He turned down the hall and slowly walked towards the office of his Alpha. He heard the voices of others in the distance but tuned them out, readying himself for the conversation, or argument, that was about to ensue. Facing the Alphas door, he slowly turned the knob and pushed it slightly open. He could hear noise inside. Straight in was the large oak desk surrounded by the floor to ceiling bay windows that gave an excellent view of the pack lands. The desk was empty, but he did hear movement and panting off to his left. Closing his eyes, he had an idea what was happening. He didn’t want to look but curiosity did him in. Tilting his head to the left, on the big leather couch, he saw them. His Alpha was seated naked in the center with his favorite omega, Corinne, straddling him, riding him hard and fast. She held onto the back of the couch as she bounced on his lap as his hands gripped her waist pulling her down harder and harder. “Oh Alpha! Harder! Harder!” He heard the woman scream as the sound of slapping bodies permeated the room. Their moans and growls of pleasure got louder and faster as did their panting. Victor stepped back and quietly closed the door. Walking back down the way he came; he entered the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge having no choice but to wait it out until they were finished. It gave him a few minutes to gather his thoughts and how he was going to tell him about Tori. “Hello beta Victor! It’s good to see you again.” A kind and gentle voice came from behind. “Hello Miss Grace” He greeted fondly at the elder woman shuffling into the room. She walked slowly with a limp and a slight hunch in her back. She was the oldest member of the pack at ninety-two years old. Her husband was Gamma a long, long time ago and was killed in a rogue attack. We all respected her and helped take care of her when needed. She put her hand on his arm and smiled up at him. “I thought you were away on business. Have you seen the Alpha yet?” “I was, but Alpha requested my presence today for a meeting. I have not seen him, he sounds…. Busy.” Victor responded with a sigh. Grace only nodded with a knowing look. “Are you hungry, have you eaten yet? I could make you something” Victor placed his hand on hers and shook his head. “I am fine Miss Grace. You don’t need to make anything. I have eaten already but thank you.” Victor guided her over to the table where she took her seat obviously having a cup of tea herself. Just then, Corinne came prancing down the hallway into the main room. Once she spotted the Beta, she smiled and walked up to him. “Alpha will see you now Beta” She gave a flirtatious grin and walked away with a slight sway in her step. Shaking his head, “Never in a million years” He thought to himself. Victor headed for the Alpha’s office. Again. “Come” After knocking on the door and given entry, Victor stepped in and stopped before the desk where the Alpha was sitting. A faint hint of arousal and s*x still hung in the air, but nothing he wasn’t used to from the room. After his mate left seventeen years ago, he never took a chosen mate. He would occasionally take comfort in one of the many omegas around the pack house. Corinne seems to be his favorite lately, but I have seen him with several others. He has no plans on taking another mate even though Corinne tries to lay down hints for him. He will never choose her as a mate anyway. Not only does she comfort the Alpha, but many others in the pack who are unmated, especially the pack warriors. She’s not exactly Luna material, only good for a quick f*ck for release. The pack has been without a Luna for that time. He became bitter and angry and quite ruthless. Although the pack members weren’t really afraid of him, they did make it a point not to get on his bad side. Although he could be off the wall aggressive and vicious, he was fair and equal to his members. Even his allied packs were afraid to cross him and took extra effort to remain on his ally list. “Alpha” Victor bowed his head in respect and stood waiting for his Alpha to continue. “What news do you have for me?” He asked, taking a seat behind his massive desk. With fingers laced together in front of him, the Alpha somewhat patiently waited for Victor’s report. “Yes Alpha. We found Tori living in a town not far from here. She works as a registered nurse in the Hidden Valley Medical Center Burn Unit. She is single and has one friend that I have seen.” Victor stopped abruptly and the Alpha raised his eyes and tilted his head. “What else Beta?” His fingers were turning white from him clenching them. His breathing was heavy, and his eyes were turning dark. “Recently, I learned, her department head has offered her a temporary special assignment.” He shifted slightly on his feet and blinked at the evil look from the other side of the desk. “She is to help heal a friend of her boss.” “Victor! What is it!?” Alpha was now on his feet and leaning over the desk glaring at him. “She is to go to the Hidden Valley Pack and help heal Alpha Ronin from his injuries sustained from the fire last year. Seems he is having trouble reassimilating into daily life.” “What!” The Alpha started pacing the room and clenching and unclenching his hands to calm his anger. “When is she supposed to be going?” He spun around to face Victor. “I don’t know yet. She is scheduled to call him back today to get the details.” Alpha punched the wall and paced the room again. “So, am I to understand, that after all these years, we finally found my daughter and now she is going to go live in a pack to heal an arrogant ass like Ronin who has no business being Alpha back into normal daily life?” He was talking quietly and controlled as he stood at his windows looking out. “Yes Alpha.” Alpha stood there for a few silent minutes before turning abruptly and growling. “I will not allow it! I won’t lose her again to an arrogant young pup who thinks he can be Alpha!” He punches his desk with a resounding c***k through the air. Victor stands firm but slightly flinches at his Alpha’s temper. Well, that went about as well as expected. Just as Victor was to speak again, his phone rings. He glances down and sighs. “Alpha, it’s Gamma Eric” The Alpha curtly nods at him to answer it. “Gamma” “Hello Beta. Have you spoken with the Alpha yet?” Victor glanced up at Alpha to see him sitting at his desk again a little more calm. “I’m with him now.” There was a moment of silence on the other end before Eric cleared his throat and began again. “Well, I had lunch with the ladies and an interesting question came up. I told Tori I would have to find out and get back to her.” Shaking his head, Victor took a seat and waited for him to continue. “Land the plane Gamma” Eric cleared his throat again. “Well, seeing how protective of Tori Tammy is, she wants to go with her.” “What!?” Victor shot to his feet and gripped the phone almost to the point of crushing it. “She won’t let Tori go alone and Tori refuses to back down. At least Tori won’t be alone in a strange pack.” “I’m putting Alpha on speaker” Victor put his phone on speaker and laid it on the desk. “Alpha” Eric greeted. “What is going on Gamma” they both stared at the phone. Knowing full well that the Alpha heard every word that he said. “Tammy refuses to let Tori go alone and Tori refuses to be persuaded not to go. I’m not sure what to say here.” Alpha shook his head. “So, you are telling me that my Gamma female wants to go into another pack land with my daughter to heal an injured Alpha? Do you have any idea what they could do to either one of them? Especially if they find out who they are?” Alpha growling out, his eyes going dark at the thought of his pup in danger. “According to Tori, her boss has guaranteed her safety. She is there only to help Alpha Ronin back on his feet and then she is to leave.” “And just how is he guaranteeing her safety?” “I’m sorry Alpha, she didn’t say” “I don’t like it, there is too much danger for them being there. Especially our Gamma female. They will want to know who she is and will know directly that she is a human. A high ranked human, but human nonetheless.” "There is one more thing Alpha, Beta…” Victor stared at his Alpha before answering Eric. “What is it?” “Tori asked if she could join my pack”
