Chapter 5 - An Encounter With Daniel

1264 Words
Kayla shuddered unconsciously when she saw the chilly look in her eyes when she glanced at her. She wondered cluelessly to herself as to when or what she had said to offend her. She opened her mouth to ask but when she felt the almost below zero temperature around Olivia, she decided against it. She started feeling quite awkward as she had no idea if she should continue sitting down or go back to her previous seat if it hadn't been occupied by another person and even if it had, she could just find another one. She really didn't want to sit here any longer as her intuition told her that the person next to her didn't want her here. While she was in the middle of contemplating, the professor came in making the class instantly quiet. She then decided she should just continue sitting down here to save herself the trouble. Moreover, she was curious about why her classmate whose name she still didn't know suddenly had a change of attitude towards her. *** Olivia packed her stuff and prepared to go out the class after the professor for the last course for the day dismissed the class. She completely ignored Kayla who was somehow still sitting beside her and expressionlessly passed through the aisle and went out of the auditorium, paying no attention to Kayla's calls behind her. She stepped out and breathed in fresh air and her shoulders sagged with relief after looking behind her and seeing no signs of Kayla coming after her. It wasn't because she was afraid of her or anything, it was just a reflex: avoiding things that reminded her of the past that she desperately wanted to forget. But then, she chuckled mockingly to herself, 'Wasn't her presence in this school an influence of her past?' She frowned slightly to herself feeling displeased at her own wandering thoughts. She then straightened her thoughts out and made a faint smile appear on her face completely hiding away her true self from prying eyes. As she stepped forward to go towards the dormitory, she didn't see the oncoming person and bumped into him. Annoyance came over her instantly as she raised her head to look at the person who had collided into her forgetting to conceal the annoyance and chilliness on her face. Two equally cold eyes stared into each other and invisible sparks seemed to be flying all around. Looking at the expressionless face and aura, she guessed that the person in front of her didn't seem to be an ordinary person so she quickly composed herself and a faint but polite smile appeared on her face. But then to her surprise, the guy who had bumped into her frowned, his sharp eyebrows squeezing together. He seemed bewildered as he asked although still in a cold voice, "Isabella?" Before Olivia could answer, he shook his head answering himself, "No, you are not her". Though the girl in front of him seemed to have a polite smile on her face, her eyes begged to differ as they had a deeply cold look in them resembling a thousand year old ice that would never melt. She was obviously not as sunny as she appeared to be. After thinking like this, suspicion then appeared in his eyes as he looked at her. He was thinking of the reason why she looked so much like his fiancee, Isabella when she was obviously not her. Olivia became totally irritated by the suspicion in his eyes and more even at the fact that she seemed to have been seen through, again! Even she couldn't understand what has been going on with her today, obviously no one had known she had been pretending all these years but in just one day, she had been discovered by two people. But no matter what the reason was, it was now secondary because right at this moment, she just wants to know why this person whom she had obviously never met before was looking at her with suspicion. And she hated being suspected the most! But before she could say anything, she heard the man asked the most ridiculous question she had ever been asked in a innocent and curious voice. "Your face… Is it real? I mean… Did you get your face done?" Daniel Roberts had been thinking about it and still couldn't come up with a reason why she looked exactly like his fiancee and he was sure that if it wasn't because he was very familiar with Isabella and also the cold look in this girl's eyes, he would have mistaken her as Bella. He couldn't overrule the fact that she might be a spy deliberately planted by their side but he doubted that because Isabella's identity has always been a tightly guarded secret. So the only reason left was that she had plastic surgery done on her face. He looked at her expectantly for an assertive answer but found that the subject of his question was staring blankly at him. It made him frown slightly as he thought that she was one of the girls who d taken in by his appearance. But then he looked closer and found that there was no admiration or infatuation in her eyes instead there seemed to be...confusion? 'Why would she be confused? Is it because of my question?', He thought inwardly to himself. But that shouldn't be, would it? Olivia swore that her mind went blank when she heard his question and for the first time since she could no longer remember, she experienced an emotion called confusion. Her mind seemed muddled and was able to understand the words separately but she was unable to understand them when stringed together! This made her uttered a subconscious 'Ah?' Her muddled appearance made a faint smile flashed past Daniel's eyes as he inexplicably found her current appearance much cuter than the cold and defensive look from earlier. Olivia, on the other hand regained her senses and after confirming that she had heard and understood his question correctly, rage appeared in her eyes making her appear more lively and charming. She took a step closer to him and tried to stare at him eyes to eyes which she failed at miserably since he was taller than her and still her momentum didn't reduce as she raised her head to look at him in the eyes and spat out word by word. "If I do understand what you just asked, you are asking if I had plastic surgery done on my face, right?" Daniel wanted to reply 'No' as he somewhat already regretted asking the question especially after understanding how rude and insulting it would sound to a girl but looking the flame of rage in her eyes, it made him want to tease her so he decided to keep silent to know what she was going to say next. But seeing him remain silent enraged Olivia even more as she asked again with a rise in her tone and frostiness already appearing on her face. "I said! Are you asking if I had plastic surgery done on my face?!" Knowing if he remained silent any longer, it wouldn't turn out good especially since other students were already paying attention to them. He could only say the truth since he really did mean that when he had asked. "Yes." His answer made her laugh out in anger and just as she raised her hand to give him a slap, a puzzled voice made her hand freeze in the air... "Daniel?"
