Chapter 2

**Two Days Later**

*Connors POV*

I’ve been feeling on edge all day, and I have no idea what's causing it. My head kills, and my whole body just feels off. Dad noticed I wasn't feeling like my usual self and let me take the day off from alpha training. There was no way I was going to be able to get anything done feeling like this. Phoenix thought going for a walk would be the perfect distraction from whatever was going on with me. So, that’s exactly what we are doing, walking through the woods heading to our favorite spot. And honestly, I think she’s right. Being out in nature feels great! Lost in my own thoughts, I felt something bump into me. I look down, to see that she is looking up at me with a knowing smile on her face. “ You up for a race, Alpha?” she teases.

Without waiting for a reply or so much of a glance back, she takes off towards the waterfall... Knowing full well, she needs the head start to have any sort of chance against me. So, I wait a few minutes to give her the head start, and once she begins to get too far out of sight, I take off after her. In a matter of seconds, I flew right by her and beat her to our destination. I take off the backpack she brought with us and reach into it to grab the blanket that I know she packed. As I pull the blanket out, I turn to make sure she isn’t too far behind. Man, she always thinks of the things Kade and I don’t, even if the three of us have been coming here for years. Just as I finish laying the blanket out, she reaches me with a huff and plops down on the blanket, and sticks her tongue out at me.

Smirking, I lay down and said “Kade will be here later. He’s still working on some beta stuff with his dad.”

“Yeah, I figured…" Hey! Did you know there was a full moon tonight!?” she responds as she shifts herself, so her head is resting on my stomach and points up to the sky. I look up, and she’s right. The night sky is clear as can be with a full moon front and center.

I wonder if the Moon Goddess is watching over us tonight...

**A Few Hours Later**

**Connor's POV**

"Wow, Connor, I can't believe we've been lying out here for hours, and none of your crazed she-wolves have come looking for you!... Well, I guess they could be, but don't know where to find us! HAHAHAH"

I looked down at her with a smirk, knowing I was about to poke the bear, "Why? Are you jealous, little one?"

"JEALOUS?! OF COURSE YOU WOULD THINK THAT, ALPHHAAA. BECAUSE EVERY SHE-WOLF IS THE SAME AND ONLY WANTS ONE THING FROM YOU, RIGHT?! What could I possibly be jealous of?!"

"That is NOT what I was insinuating, baby girl. I was just teasing you, you know you're the only she wolf that has my attention, " I said with a wink and mess her hair up.

Goddess, I love teasing her. She makes it so easy, and the way she gets worked up?! It is so adorable. There are definitely no boring moments with her in my life.

She and I remain like this for a little while longer, just enjoying each others company, that is, until the pain from earlier starts to return. She notices my discomfort immediately and switches our positions, so I was now lying with my head in her lap. My body would not stop twitching, and then an unbearable itch took over every inch of me. Wait... it couldn't be... could it? Phoenix and I made eye contact as it dawned on us... My wolf was emerging!

“Baby girl, I need you to mindlink my dad or Kade. Tell them my shift is starting!” Just as I get the last words out, I hear my wolf speak to me! …

“Hello, Connor. As you have guessed, our shift is starting. I am your wolf. My name is Shadow. I know this is a surprise since we are not 16 yet, but we are strong, and it is time for me to emerge.”

I look up at Phoenix as Shadow is speaking to me, and she must see it in my eyes because there is a huge smile plastered on her face, “is it your wolf?! Is he speaking with you?! What’s his name?!” she exclaims excitedly at me.

Shadow and I both laugh at her eagerness. He pushes himself forward and answers her in his own gruff voice “My name is Shadow, little one, and, since I have all of Connor’s memories, I know how important you are to us. I hope we can form a bond just as the two of you have.”

“HELLLLL YESSS! I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TH--“

Before she could complete her sentence, the sound of my bones breaking cut her off.

“It is time for our shift” Shadow speaks from the back of my mind.

“This will not be easy, but I will help you through it. We are an alpha; we can do this. Trust me.”

“Connor… Connor, I don’t know if you can hear me, but I called Kade. He’s on his way! Until then, we can do this together, okay? We need to move you so I can take your shirt and pants off. We don’t want you to rip them during your shift… "Okay, perfect, Con. Just breathe. I know you can do this. Let's get you on all fours so you don’t get hurt.”

As she starts to shift my body around, I realize, everywhere she touches the pain seems to ease. Goddess, I am so thankful she is here with me. We continue like this for over half an hour - my bones keep breaking and rearranging themselves but never staying. My wrists and hands break over and over again, trying to change and make room for paws, but they won't stay. Goddess, why won't the change take?! This pain is unbearable. How many times can my bones break over and over again before I pass out from the pain?! Is this how everyone's first shift goes? or just mine because we are shifting before the normal age?!

I feel two small hands being placed on either side of my face, pulling me out of my inner turmoil. I looked up to see two emerald eyes shining with unshed tears staring back at me.

"You can do this, Con. Stop fighting Shadow and allow him to take over. You are not alone. I am right here with you - Kade said he's only a few minutes out. We can do this! I believe in you! Now, focus on the sound of my heartbeat and tune everything else out! SHIFT!"

It's like those words were the exact boost we needed. Shadow focused himself on her and pushed himself forward and forced the shift to be completed. This time, when my bones broke and elongated to accommodate my wolf form, they stayed that way. The itch and burn from fur sprouting no longer felt like sandpaper rubbing against me. And just like that, my first shift was completed right in her hands - no longer was there a human head in her hands, but now a giant, solid black wolf's head. Two bright blue eyes of an alpha wolf now stared back at her.

It was quite clear, she was in awe of our presence. And that caused Shadow's chest to puff out in great pride.

He proceeded to cautiously take a step forward, not wanting to startle her out of her daze. However, that is exactly what it did and in turn she fell flat on her back, but that doesn't stop him. He leaned his giant head down to her neck, inhaled her scent, nuzzled her slightly, and licked right up the side of her face!

And what does she do? This little she- wolf giggles! Giggles and wraps her arms around our neck and plays with our fur!

"Heyy there big boy, it's an honor to be the first one to meet you" she finally says. His chest rumbles at her words. He is loving EVERY second of her attention! He is PURRING LIKE A DAMN CAT. Phoenix seriously has this alpha wolf putty in her hands! This girl amazes me every chance she gets.

She pulls back to look us in our eyes and tells Shadow, "you are one handsome boy, you know that?"

Before he can respond, he senses something. He whips his head to the side and immediately becomes alert. Ears high in the air, listening to his surroundings, "What is it?" I asked him.

"I hear movement in the bushes. There is someone else here with us. Must protect little one, " he growls out, and climbs over her, forcing her into a crouching position, so he is able to shield her completely from any possible threat. Once she is safely hidden under him, he lets out a warning growl so any and all intruders know we are not to be messed with.

However, it wasn't some rogue that emerged from the bushes but a solid gray wolf with a white patch on its chest. It was Blade, Kade's Wolf.
