Chapter Six Restraining Order Raymond showed this time to court, but he would not agree to any of the terms of the divorce he was fighting everything. He said he wanted to try marriage counseling again because he was recently diagnosed bipolar, and he deserved another chance since he was being medicated now. Nothing would make him sign so the judge adjourned it once again. She also agreed with the marriage counseling. I was livid about it, but I decided I would do whatever it took to get rid of him from my life permanently. I felt like I was going crazy. I just wanted it to be over with and start the next chapter in my life. At this point and time, it felt like I was in Groundhog’s Day, and everything was just repeating, and the cycle wouldn't break until I came to some sort of epiphany. He was getting crazier by the day, showing up constantly wherever I was; calling nonstop it was getting ridiculous. He even came to my work daily and would have to be made to leave. He followed me around all over campus, begging me to give him another chance. This thing had already been dragged out a year I was ready for it to be over. I was entering my second year of college and needed to focus but it was so hard with my soon to be ex-husband blowing up my phone, stalking my social media, messaging me friends it was draining me. It was Christmas break, and I was home alone sick as hell. I was dozing on the couch when my dog Tanker started growling at the window. I told him to lay down and he lunged at the window. I looked and it was moving, and you could hear noise. Someone was trying to break in. I tried to get to my phone to call 911. Just as my window flew open and in came my soon to be ex-husband. I yelled at him that he needed to leave, and he said he was not going anywhere. You could smell the alcohol coming off him. I told him I had just dialed 911 you could hear the dispatcher, but he grabbed the phone out of my hand and threw it. He said, “your stupid w***e if I can't have you no one can” and he hit me over the head with my lamp. When I woke up, I was tapped to a chair in my basement. My mouth was taped shut. He started yelling how I had wrecked his life. I was his world and I just wanted to walk away. That I didn't understand anything. I was the only reason he was still alive, and I needed to get over the past or die in it. He hit me across the face and said, “I want you to suffer like I have been suffering watching you w***e around with two other men, I want you to hurt like I hurt”. Then he took what looked like a branding iron out of the duffle bag by his side. He made it glow red by using a torch. I was the shape of a D then he pressed it to my arm. I was crying in pain. Then he said he was going to have one last time with me before he killed me. I was afraid this was truly going to be the end. Then I heard yelling and loud hard footsteps. The cops finally arrived, they busted through the basement door, tackled him to the ground and arrested him. I was taken to the hospital where I found out that he drugged me apparently after he knocked me out. The next day I went to the courthouse and got a personal protection order against him in hopes that he would leave me alone out of fear of going back to jail. If he ever got out. Wishful thinking on my part, I guess. A few nights after he had been released from jail on bond Jayson was spending the night with me. We were asleep in my bed when we heard this loud yelling outside of my bedroom window. We got up and looked down and there he was. Screaming I needed to stop messing with his emotions before he killed me once and for all. Jayson went down to try and calm him down and get him to leave and he hit Jayson in the face. I called the cops, Jayson restrained him until the police showed up, he was not the violent type, but he wasn't going to fight or allow him to harm me. The cops arrested him for violating the restraining order and I prayed he wouldn't come back. The next week when Jayden was spending the night he came back again. He was yelling and calling me a w***e. Jayden went down to confront him and politely asked him to leave adding that he needed to stop harassing me. Raymond looked at him and said what do you care about the little w***e for. That was when Jayden punched him in the face, and they began to fight. Finally, the cops came and split them up, arresting Raymond once again for violating the personal protection order. Since he had violated the restraining order multiple times we had to go to court. He was charged with stalking as well as domestic assault on top of his abduction and torture charges he already had. They had dropped his sentencing down because of his mental health, he was only sentenced to a year in jail. Even after taking me hostage in my own home and violating a restraining order he only ended up getting a year. Jayden, Jayson and my friend Makayla went to the court hearing with me. I was thankful they were all with me because I was anxious and could feel a panic attack coming on. When he was only sentenced to a year Makayla and Jayden squeezed my hands and said, “hey don't worry at least you will have a year without him”. Makayla told me to look on the bright side at least when the divorce hearing came around I would have more than enough for probable cause.
