Chapter 4

4. Ethan’s POV My lips curved upwards immediately those words left her mouth. I knew she was not going to refuse the offer, but I was still relieved that she met my expectations. In her eyes, I could see nothing but pain, sorrow, resentment, anger, and a thirst for revenge. The worst thing a man can ever do to a woman is to break her trust and her heart when all she had ever done was love him with all her heart and soul. Once that trust is broken, a woman can go to any length to make that man suffer for every single pain she experienced. Do not underestimate the power of an angry woman, thirsty for revenge. “I’m glad you accepted my proposal, Ms. Zander. Have a seat so we can go over the terms of the contract I have prepared for us.” I gestured to the chair in front of my desk and she sat down. “You knew I was going to come back to you, right? That was why you prepared the contract even before I said yes.” She looked at me, waiting for my answer, while I just smiled at her. Chloe Zander, she was always the smart one. Nothing got past her that easily, and I wondered how love reduced such a smart lady to a… I trailed off in my thoughts and cleared my throat. “You’re quite predictable, you know,” I said, and she scoffed. I took some papers from my drawer and placed them on the table. She picked them and glanced through them. “The conditions aren’t much or difficult to follow. No feelings attached, act like the perfect couple in public just for the show, act like the perfect couple in the presence of my parents, and—” “Move in with you?” She interrupted with the last statement I was about to make, and I flashed her a smile. “I’m fine with the rest, but I can’t move in with you.” “Why not?” I asked and she facepalmed. “We aren’t married couples, sir,” I rolled my eyes at the formality. “Do we have to get married to live together?” I asked with my arms folded. I didn’t see anything wrong with us staying together as fiancé and fiancée. It wasn’t such a big deal. And I wanted to keep an eye on her because she looked like she was going to go crazy soon. “Yes. I believe married couples are the ones that can live under the same roof.” “That's your belief, not mine, and if you insist on married couples living under the same roof then let’s get married.” I smirked and her eyes widened. She quickly looked away from me while I watched her intently. She dabbed her fingers together as if she were thinking about something or weighing her options. She looked back at me. “Fine, I’ll move in with you, but we will stay in different rooms. Is that clear?” She asked. “That’s fine with me.” I placed my hands on the desk. “This is crazy! I can’t believe I’m about to move in with someone I know nothing about.” She ran her hand through her hair. I felt a pang of pain at her statement, but I shook it off. “Sign the papers,” I handed her a pen and she took it. She was about to sign but stopped. “When will the contract be over?” She asked. “When I say it’s over.” I answered. “And when is that?” She asked, and I stood from where I was seated. I got to where she sat and looked into her brown eyes; those eyes that have always been a magnet pulling me in for years now. I moved back and smiled at her. “Soon.” I answered and she sighed. She signed the contract and gave me the paper. I collected it and signed my part. “I’ll give you a copy tomorrow,” I said, and she nodded before standing to her feet. “You can move in today.” “Can it wait until tomorrow? I need to sort out some things and also tell my best friend what I’ve been up to. She hasn’t seen me since the ugly incident yesterday.” She forced a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “No problem. My company will be hosting an event tomorrow night. Be ready by six. The whole world needs to know that you’re my fiancée.” “It’s fake. Why let the whole world know?” She asked and I sighed. “You will understand very soon. You can leave now,” I said, and she nodded. She was about to walk out when I noticed something on her head. I held her and brought her close. “Is that a wound on your head?” I asked and she quickly moved away from me. “It’s nothing.” “Who the f*****g hell did that to you?” I balled my fists. “I’m fine.” She didn’t wait for me to say anything else before rushing out of the office. Ken entered the minute she left. If I find out that a scumbag ex of hers is the one that hurt her, I will make him understand what it means to die and still be alive. I stared at the contract and a smile came to my face. “You’re finally mine, Chloe Zander,” I muttered. “Is she the one that just left?” He asked and I nodded. “You’re right, Ethan. She is a beauty goddess,” He complimented, and I frowned at him. “Gosh, you’re so possessive. I’m your best friend. Don’t I have the right to admire her?” “No.” I answered plainly and took a seat. “Now that you finally found her, and she’s close to you now, when do you intend to tell her who you really are?” Ken asked and I sighed. “I can’t tell her now, Ken. I don’t want her to feel like I’m no different from other men. She has been betrayed and has gone through a lot in the hands of love. I want to bring her back to the Chloe I know, not some weak lover girl that got dumped by her boyfriend. I would like to mend her broken heart and give her a reason to love again.” I have struggled to get her all these years. Now that she is finally with me, I’m not going to let her out of my sight. I’m not going to allow her to get broken again! That’s my mission!
