Ava's POV I looked down at my hand, which was now damaged. It was no longer the weapon it used to be. My wolf recoiled within me in anguish. “My hand, Mrs. Hale…” My voice dropped, barely steady. “It’s destroyed.” My throat tightened as the tears came again, slower this time. I didn’t stop them, and my wolf didn’t either. I lifted my right hand and rolled up my sleeve. I turned my wrist slightly, exposing it fully so Emma could see. “Three years ago…” My voice trembled, but I forced the words out. “Someone shoved me down the stairs.” My wolf flinched at the memory, a low, pained whine echoing in the back of my mind. “I shattered my hand completely.” I swallowed, the next part scraping its way out of my chest. “And then they kept stepping on it… over and over. Forcing me to use it.
