“What did he say to you?” Victor pressed.
“Do you really care?” I shot back, my voice cutting through the room like broken glass.
My wolf bristled, feeding off the anger, the pain of everything I’d swallowed down.
“Afraid he’ll dig up the truth and ruin things for Laura?” I continued, the words spilling out faster now. “Don’t worry. You two covered it up well enough. He’ll never find it.”
Dense silence followed.
“No matter what he said,” Victor replied, his voice calm in a way that made my wolf uneasy, “don’t let him scare you. He is also a highly sought-after lawyer, as you already know. He won’t risk anything reckless.”
A cold laugh slipped from me. Yeah… he wasn’t reckless. That was the problem. If he had been… maybe he would’ve ended it quickly.
