Ava's POV
Magnus didn’t say a word, instead he glared at me with disdain. Through clenched teeth, fighting back the burn behind my eyes, I forced the words out, each one scraping my throat raw.
“How dare you take everything that belongs to me? Have you forgotten,” I said, my voice shaking despite everything, “how you and mum made me go to prison for Laura?”

Magnus’ hand slammed across my face.
The impact snapped my head sideways, the taste of copper flooding my mouth as my cheek exploded in pain. My wolf yelped inside me, recoiling, her ears flattened in shock.
