“Easy,” Reuben muttered.
He carried me against his chest and strode toward the emergency room without even glancing at Victor or Laura, as if they were nothing but empty air.
The ward doors swung open, and the outside voices faded.
Inside the emergency room, Reuben examined me thoroughly. When he finished, he let out a breath of relief.
“She fainted from emotional stress.”
Nora apparently went silent after that, guilt flooding her scent.
“It’s my fault...” she whispered.
Reuben must have seen the remorse on her face, because he didn’t push. Instead, he gave orders to the nurse, then turned back to her.
“She’s staying overnight for observation. If all her tests are fine tomorrow, then you can discuss taking her home.”
